Basic questions about Basecamp

I'm working with a Zumo 350. So far so good, as I have had some bad luck with Garmin in the past. Planning a trip so now I'm really getting into Basecamp. Like many, I've spent hours and hours and hours getting so frustrated with BC I have to get up and walk away (usually swearing). I've watched the tutorial videos over and over. So let's start with the basics. I created a simple route, Zumo 350 plugged into the Mac, BC running. I click on "Send List" in the upper left hand corner to transfer the route to my device. Window comes up confirming the device being used and then it says something about maps are not unlocked. Great. So I figure out how to unlock maps. I put in all the serial numbers, product key, etc...everything it asks me. Says maps are unlocked now. Yay !!!!! Next I go back to click on "Send List" in the upper left hand corner. Response: Maps are not unlocked. WTF???

I've read so much about BC. Most people bitch about it (like me), but there are those who say once you figure it out, it's actually not bad. Seeing how there's not a lot of alternatives out there.....guess I'll figure it out and be one of the minority. So.....I got plenty of questions, but I'll start with this little brain teaser. I welcome any input on this matter.
  • Sorry but that's confused me too. If you're sending a route BC shouldn't be worrying about maps, or are you trying to send maps too? I don't have a mac but on the Windows version to send a route you right click the route and select 'Send to' then select your device from the list.
  • Your zumo has a map doesn't it? No need to send another one. In any case isn't the map you have in Basecamp the same as you have on your zumo? All you need to do is send the route. The videos here should help you:

As you can see, when you click on 'Send list' you just need to check the Routes box.
  • Let's try a very simple example to try to sort this out. Create a new blank list -- no waypoints, tracks, routes, nothing in it. With your 350 plugged in and either its map selected in the pull-down at the top of BC or the EXACT SAME map version installed on your Mac (either will do), use the green route tool to create a simple route by clicking at a few points on the map.

When you Send List with this new list highlighted in the left pane and the Routes box checked per sussamb's advice, it should send that route -- nothing else -- to your 350 and it should be ready to import or perhaps to use via Go To right away (I don't have a zumo 350, so not sure if it's a two-step process on the GPS itself).

Notice there is no need to fuss with maps or Favorites or anything -- this simple route should transfer and be useable in your 350. Let us know how you make out.
