Battery died, can I complete my ride?

Hi All

Sorry if this info is already out there but I have tried searching and can't find anything.

I did a 110k loop around London on Saturday night but for some reason my 800 battery died after about 6 hours (lots of stops...) so I have lost the last 20 or so kilometers of the ride. So here's some details before I get to my question:

  • I have a gpx of the final section from the original source.
  • I have uploaded the ride data into Basecamp.
  • I know my final end time, and the time the battery died, so I have the delta timing.

I wanted to know whether there is any way I can add the final few k into the ride data and in some way approximate the extra time taken to get something resembling a complete gpx of the ride, with what stats are available?

Thanks in advance. If i've missed any vital data out, or this doesn't make sense then please let me know and I will do what I can to get the relevant data.

Cheers

You cannot add/edit Track Time Stamp data within BaseCamp. The only way you can do what you desire is to add an additional track segment (which you can "draw" in BaseCamp) to your ridden-segment. Then export the Track as a GPX file. Open the GPX file in a text editor or better yet, an XML editor and manually edit the track to make sure that the "added" track segment does not have a new time stamp after the original Start Time - may be more work than you want.

    Thanks Dan

I will have a look at that and see if I can work it out. I'm not great with xml, but willing to give it a look.

The free program GPSBabel will add timestamps to a GPX file. the link to the program is at www.gpsbabel.org

See the faketime option on page 137 of the downloadable manual in pdf form.

Good one Jack. I haven't use the command line version of GPSBabel in so long I forgot all about it.

    Cheers,
  • If you have a GPX file of the last segment with time stamps, you can simply edit the two tracks in BaseCamp so they don't overlap in time and join them.
