Various measures between Basecamp and Dakota 20

Hello to all
When I transferred into BaseCamp records with my Dakota 20 I find significant differences in length and total ascent.
The lengths of paths are always higher on the Dakota 20 than those noted by Basecamp.
Example 16.4 km in Dakota and 15.1 km in Basecamp.
For total ascent the differences are more important.
For example 1008 m in Dakota and 801 m BaseCamp.
Where do these differences come from? What are the most accurate information ? How to reduce the gap between the Dakota 20 and BaseCamp?
Thank you in advance for your help.
Cordially.
Patrick.
