Map on 60csx is poor approximation of map created in Basecamp

I am using Basecamp 4.1.2 on a Macbook Pro running OS 10.8.3 with a GPSmap 60CSx, loaded with 24k topo and CN. I create route on Basecamp using the route tool and selecting several sequential points on the route. This route shows up beautifully on the laptop, following the road perfectly. When I upload this route to the 60CSx and select it from the Route page, the route shows straight lines from the points I selected, without the detail shown in Basecamp. The 60CSx map does not interpolate the path between the selected points, rather just connects them with a straight line.

I have tried turning off CN and topo alternately, without change.

Many thanks in advance for the help. I'm very frustrated by not being able to figure this out......ugh.https://forums.garmin.com/images/smilies/confused.png

Is your 60CSx configured for autorouting?

MENU, MENU -> Setup -> Routing -> Guidance Method = Follow Road or Prompted

Also if you just use the Map button while viewing the route you'll only see point-to-point. Use Navigate instead. That will calculate turn-by-turn directions etc.

Thank you so much for the reply. I love the Basecamp route creation capabilities and just want to follow the routes I make on the computer. I do not want the 60CSx to try to correct my 'off route' path; just show my location relative to the route, and let me do the correction. My usage is for off road motorcycling, using fire and forest service roads etc. Those created routes are inherently sketchy, so during the trips I have to accommodate. If the 60CSx 'tries' to do the correction (re-routing) for me, it does more harm than good!

So are you saying I should set the guidance to "Follow Road or Prompted"? and configure the device for NOT autorouting?

    I appreciate the clarification!

No. If you want the 60CSx to follow your direct (point-to-point) routes and not follow roads/trails set the Guidance Method to Off Road. Prompted just gives you the choice (Follow Road or Off Road) when you start navigating the route.

Have you thought about also converting your Route to a Track in BaseCamp and then sending both to your GPS? It will never change the Track. Some folks display both on the GPS so they are able to tell if the route has been chnged by the GPS.

    Jack,
Thanks for the suggestion. Using tracks rather than routes works great! I had not considered that. I really appreciate it!

I'm doing the WABDR this summer, having done the OBDR last summer with annoying GPS issues. Tracks will really help.....
