Hello, I have trying to find more hints about this problem and all what I found so far did not help.

Basecamp does not find my GPS.

Here are the SW versions
Macbook Pro 13": 10.8.3
Basecamp: 4.1.2
GPSMAP276C: 5.50
Garmin Communicator Plug-in Version 4.0.4.0

and what I tried already
The GPS is recognized with basecamp on a Windows PC (same cable).
The USB is working e.g. USB stick, mouse, camera - all ok
called Mac hotline - gave a special restart (ALT+CMD+P+R)

Any idea what now?

    Any other USB stuff plugged into your MBP?
    ==> I tried both GPS alone and GPS together with a USB stick - same result, GPS cannot be found
    Does the GPS Mount on the desktop when BC in not running?
    ==> NO
    Does the GPS Mount if BC is running?
    ==> I cannot see it anywhere on the desktop
    Does your GPS show up in Finder?
    ==> neither in Finder
    I am not sure where else to look for.
    In windows, there is a control panel, where one can see the attached HW. I tried to look for sth similar in Mac but did not find.
    Somewhere I read the Garmin should be visible in Library/Application Support/Garmin - I see only Maps there.

    Add-on:

    1. I installed basecamp on another Macbook pro 13" 10.8.x and the same result - basecamp does not find the GPS.
    2. I installed windows 7 on my Mac, followed by Basecamp and

    dada - basecamp recognizes my GPS and I can e.g. upload tracks and waypoints.
    This eases my life a little, it does not solve my problem since all my maps are installed on the MAC OS and I do not have the installation CD for the Windows side with me (since I travel around the world on my motorbike and are therefore space-limited).

    How to get the Basecamp in MAC OS recognize my GPS?
  • Does your MacBook have USB3 ports? I've read several reports that the combination of older Garmins and USB3 doesn't work properly. The solution is to use a USB2 hub in between.

    In windows, there is a control panel, where one can see the attached HW. I tried to look for sth similar in Mac but did not find.

    Click the apple icon in the upper left corner of the menu bar and choose "About this Mac". Click the "System Report" button in the window that opens. Click "USB" on the list of Hardware in the left Window pane and you can see everything that is connected.

    If you want to move your maps over to the Windows partition, I think JaVaWa's GMTK can do that for you: http://www.javawa.nl/gmtk_en.html

    Actually, Macintosh format maps (.gmap) are also compatible with the current version of Basecamp and Mapsource on Windows, so it's just a matter to putting them in the right place. You may have to deal with unlock codes, but that should be straightforward.
