MacBook Pro freezing when running Base Camp

I have version 4.1.2 of Base Camp and am using it with a Garmin Oregon 550. Frequently when I am running the program and connect my Oregon to my MacBook Pro it causes my computer to freeze up displaying the spinning "beach ball" and the only way out of it is to power down the MacBook with the power button.
Sometimes if I disconnect the Oregon and restart Base Camp it will run OK.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I can try to fix this problem?
Thanks,
John

Series of questions:
• How long have you allowed the ball to spin before terminating the process?
• Has the Oregon550 ever been recognized by BaseCamp so that you can see all of the data/map?
• If you don't have BaseCamp running and connect the Oregon550 are you able to use Finder and browse the contents?

(1) I have probably left the ball spin for about 4 minutes.
(2) Yes, the Oregon 550 has been recognized by BaseCamp before and the problem doesn't occur every time I connect it.
(3) Yes, the problem only seems to occur with BaseCamp.
Thanks for replying to my question.

Hmmm, at this point I'd be guessing that there might be data on the GPS that BaseCamp is having trouble reading. When this condition happens and you shutdown your MBPro, does BaseCamp recognize the GPS right away after reboot?

Hi Dan
Thanks for all your advice.
It appears that my problem was not really associated with the Garmin 550 after all. To-night I encountered the freeze in BaseCamp without the GPS connected. It seems that some time in the past I had imported a .gpx file from my NAS drive and BaseCamp may have been tied up searching for this file. I deleted it from the list in BaseCamp and the problem seems to be resolved.
Thanks again for your help.

Hi John, I have the same problem. How did you get beyond the beachball to actually delete the file from the list. Also, how did you Id which file was causing the issue?, Stephen

Yes, which file did you delete? I am stuck with the same problem...

I don't remember the exact name of the file. It was a track.gpx that I had imported from my Network Storage hard drive. I just kept force-quitting and retrying to start Basecamp until the beach ball didn't appear and deleted files in the list until it worked.
Sorry I can't be more explicit than this but my memory is not good.

In the end What I found was my AllData.gdb file was corrupt. So I downloaded AppCleaner and ran it. It found all the files associated with "com.garmin" and I deleted the entire basecamp and associated files. Which means all my waypoints, tracks, etc were deleted. But I had the most important ones sill on my Colorado 400t. I made a copy of my AllData.gbd to my desktop and when I downloaded and re-installed a fresh copy of basecamp and tried to import this file it told me it was corrupt.

So in the end, I have a fresh copy of BaseCamp installed on the Mac.

If you'd be willing to send a copy of your AllData.gdb file to [email protected], it would be helpful in trying to diagnose and fix this problem.

BaseCamp copies all data locally when it is imported, so no remote file should be the cause of BaseCamp hanging, other than those on a device when it is plugged in.

Edit: Fixed email address

I wish I could...I already deleted it from my MAC....I have a backup of it, but I am not sure when I made it...I can send it anyway but I am not sure if it is corrupt or not.
