BaseCamp 4.2 beta is live

BaseCamp 4.2.0.2 introduces several new features and fixes some old issues. The Trip Planner, changeable libraries, significant improvement in find, and different profiles for legs of a route are some of the biggies. Note that several features are still a work in progress, but we wanted to go ahead and get feedback on the current state.

A complete list of features:
• Added Trip Planner (work-in-progress) (MacOS 10.7+ only)
• adds easy way to create trips
• create trips over several days
• round trip support
• printing trips
• add destinations along the route
• flying support (airport and flight look-up)
• time zone support
• Added initial support for different libraries which is patterned after iPhoto libraries. Feel free to try the feature out, but note that the next version will possibly break libraries created in this beta. This feature can be found under Preferences->Advanced->Workspaces
• Added support for different route profiles for different legs of a route
• Added support to have different folders and lists with the same name (as long as they have a different parent in the folder hierarchy)
• Added support for UK postal code search
• Added support for Yelp search (work-in-progress)
• Added support for named search (far away POIs should be found if it's an exact name match)
• Added support for category search (you can type "Hotels, Las Vegas, NV")
• Added quick search (hover over the map to invoke it)
• Added Irish Transverse Mercator grid
• Added support for displaying BirdsEye while in Basestation mode
• Added support for displaying and saving the track of the Basestation itself
• Added support for displaying the most recent update time for Basestation contacts
• Fixed issue with Garmap Southern Africa Topo & Rec 2012.3 - NT not being displayed BaseCamp

It can be downloaded from here

Edit: The second beta drop (BaseCamp 4.2.0.4) is now live. Use the above link to get it or go to https://forums.garmin.com/showthread.php?36289-BaseCamp-4-2-beta-is-live&p=179071#post179071 for more details. Note that 4.2.0.2 will not autoupdate to 4.2.0.4. You will need to manually update.
  • I usually proceed each waypoint with the state abbreviation but with the beta, when I add the state abbreviation, I get a dialog box telling me the waypoint name already exists. I click ok and the waypoint accepts the change and everything is fine. Not a big issue but I think it is a bug.

Has anyone found a easy way to use trip planner and set the day trips (start and end) in addition to the over all start and end waypoints.

The easiest way to set Start-End points each day is to predefine those waypoints. Then you simply type their names into the Add point of interest "Search Near..." field.

Using the Day to Day mode, currently (who knows what might change) if you use the Add Destination button you will get a new Day with the Start point taken from the End Point of the previous day (makes sense).

    Trip Planner

Bug: Create a Day-route in Day-mode. Then adjust the route on the map with a couple of via points. Then set those via points to "shaping points". Exit Trip and re-open Trip.

Notice that the Arrival Time has changed from 3:28pm to 9:48AM(the same day).

Change the the via points back so that they will be Announced and,

    Cheers,

Yes, I have seen that occasionally in my BC but not consistent.

    Trip Planner - Feature Request

Currently when you start a Trip Planning session you have to select "Max travel hours per day:". Setting this to any number other than "0" locks in daily route calculations. I would normally use "0" since I don't always know how long I want to travel per day as I start planning in Trip Planner. But, it is of value to set a "travel hours" limit while planning. So, I would like to suggest you allow changes to the "travel hours" on each leg of a Trip by allowing the travel hours to be changed in each day by clicking on the travel time as indicated in the screen shot below. This screen shot is also a good example of why one might obviously want to change the travel time since adding 30min would save me a day in the Itinerary.

I realize that one could just delete the "Babb" destination from both days and drag the "Many Glacier" destination into Day-1 but there are still scenarios where changing a single days travel duration would be of value.

    Cheers,

If you have a waypoint "GA stop 1" and have another waypoint named "second waypoint" and insert a GA in format of second waypoint, I always get the dialog when clicking off waypoint entry.

I am not able to reproduce this issue. We will have a new beta out soon, please let me know if you are still seeing this issue in the new beta.

I'm not able to reproduce this issue. To confirm the steps:

    1. Make a waypoint named "GA stop 1"
    2. Make a waypoint named "second waypoint"
    3. Rename "second waypoint" to "GA second waypoint" to get the error?
