BaseCamp 4.2 beta is live

BaseCamp 4.2.0.2 introduces several new features and fixes some old issues. The Trip Planner, changeable libraries, significant improvement in find, and different profiles for legs of a route are some of the biggies. Note that several features are still a work in progress, but we wanted to go ahead and get feedback on the current state.

A complete list of features:
• Added Trip Planner (work-in-progress) (MacOS 10.7+ only)
• adds easy way to create trips
• create trips over several days
• round trip support
• printing trips
• add destinations along the route
• flying support (airport and flight look-up)
• time zone support
• Added initial support for different libraries which is patterned after iPhoto libraries. Feel free to try the feature out, but note that the next version will possibly break libraries created in this beta. This feature can be found under Preferences->Advanced->Workspaces
• Added support for different route profiles for different legs of a route
• Added support to have different folders and lists with the same name (as long as they have a different parent in the folder hierarchy)
• Added support for UK postal code search
• Added support for Yelp search (work-in-progress)
• Added support for named search (far away POIs should be found if it's an exact name match)
• Added support for category search (you can type "Hotels, Las Vegas, NV")
• Added quick search (hover over the map to invoke it)
• Added Irish Transverse Mercator grid
• Added support for displaying BirdsEye while in Basestation mode
• Added support for displaying and saving the track of the Basestation itself
• Added support for displaying the most recent update time for Basestation contacts
• Fixed issue with Garmap Southern Africa Topo & Rec 2012.3 - NT not being displayed BaseCamp

It can be downloaded from here

Edit: The second beta drop (BaseCamp 4.2.0.4) is now live. Use the above link to get it or go to https://forums.garmin.com/showthread.php?36289-BaseCamp-4-2-beta-is-live&p=179071#post179071 for more details. Note that 4.2.0.2 will not autoupdate to 4.2.0.4. You will need to manually update.

Or they could reward their long term beta testers with a free hardware upgrade to the latest and greatest 'Air :D

I couldn't wait...my new MBPro Retina will arrive this week.

    Cheers,
  • The default Speed Adjustment doesn't work for me as is, it needs the ability to adjust road types individually as Dan has indicated. Boosting the default speed to get to a reality based Interstate pace means a 10 to 15 kph increase for me. Not a good idea on city streets.

Agree! The speed Adjustment is poor.
Ability to adjust road types individually! Especially in Europe need- and helpful. :D

By the way - what's the default speed in Europe - CN EU NT 2013.41?
  • Feature Request: Continuity

We've got Road Type Avoidances for routing, Map Display Preferences, and soon (fingers crossed) we'll have the ability to adjust the default speed for different road type. My ideal would be to have them all consistent and linked. Use the Road Type Avoidances as the basis. If a road type is checked to avoid, it automatically is hidden from view on the map and the option to adjust the default speed is greyed out. If a road type is used in a profile it's automatically included in the map view and the option to adjust the average speed is presented. This could ideally all be done through one preference pane.
  • Basecamp Beta 4.2.0.4 – Routing problem

The elastic band function (don't know if it's the right word in English) doesn't work anymore.

    Any solutions yet?

See the video for further Informations:

Works fine for me. Maybe something else you could try. Move the route you want to edit to a new, empty list and try again. My guess is that trying to place a via point on a road containing an existing route is the problem.

Yeah, you're right. That workaround works.:p
I think the new appearing window (see end of video) is the problem.
Hope Garmin will fix this so that the flying window doesn't appear if you move that elastic band.

It would be very annoying if you have to move every route in a new list where its solo to do so.
  • Restrictions of Routes on SD Card?

Don't know if its just a problem relating to BC 4.2.0.4 …

I've imported 148 routes from Basecamp on the SD card. They're displayed in BaseCamp on the SD card. :)
 But zumo shows only 128 routes are available in "My data" -> "Import Data" -> "Routes"! :( (Tried that more than 15x)
    Are there limits?

    Edit:
Also with BC 4.1.2 same problem. What the f...?
  • Nobody with the same problem? Or do you all have just less than 128 routes on SD card?
  • I suspect this is a zumo and not a Basecamp problem ... try posting here http://forums.gpsreview.net/ or call Garmin customer support.
