BaseCamp 4.2 beta is live

BaseCamp 4.2.0.2 introduces several new features and fixes some old issues. The Trip Planner, changeable libraries, significant improvement in find, and different profiles for legs of a route are some of the biggies. Note that several features are still a work in progress, but we wanted to go ahead and get feedback on the current state.

A complete list of features:
• Added Trip Planner (work-in-progress) (MacOS 10.7+ only)
• adds easy way to create trips
• create trips over several days
• round trip support
• printing trips
• add destinations along the route
• flying support (airport and flight look-up)
• time zone support
• Added initial support for different libraries which is patterned after iPhoto libraries. Feel free to try the feature out, but note that the next version will possibly break libraries created in this beta. This feature can be found under Preferences->Advanced->Workspaces
• Added support for different route profiles for different legs of a route
• Added support to have different folders and lists with the same name (as long as they have a different parent in the folder hierarchy)
• Added support for UK postal code search
• Added support for Yelp search (work-in-progress)
• Added support for named search (far away POIs should be found if it's an exact name match)
• Added support for category search (you can type "Hotels, Las Vegas, NV")
• Added quick search (hover over the map to invoke it)
• Added Irish Transverse Mercator grid
• Added support for displaying BirdsEye while in Basestation mode
• Added support for displaying and saving the track of the Basestation itself
• Added support for displaying the most recent update time for Basestation contacts
• Fixed issue with Garmap Southern Africa Topo & Rec 2012.3 - NT not being displayed BaseCamp

It can be downloaded from here

Edit: The second beta drop (BaseCamp 4.2.0.4) is now live. Use the above link to get it or go to https://forums.garmin.com/showthread.php?36289-BaseCamp-4-2-beta-is-live&p=179071#post179071 for more details. Note that 4.2.0.2 will not autoupdate to 4.2.0.4. You will need to manually update.

The "Unlisted Data" list is just a placeholder (not a real list) for anything that is not in one or more list(s).

STUARTMW, are you sure about that? I think of a "List" as though it was a piece of paper rather than a container. That list just represents the items, it doesn't actually hold the items.

I think this is how BaseCamp's database works but if I've missed something please let me know. In BaseCamp you create/import a bunch of data (waypoints, routes, tracks, photos, etc.) all in one bucket or database called My Collection. Without making a lot of duplicates of your data you'd like to see it organized into various "views" so you make List's of the data you want to view for various reasons: a hike, a trip, etc. It's just a list of the data not the "real" data - that data is still in the bucket. If that's the way BC works then the Unlisted Data list would truly be a "List". It's just a list of the data in the Bucket (My Collection) that does not happen to be on any of your other List's (views).

    Cheers,

Well I guess your argument is whether "Unlisted Data" is a "list" or not. Is a tomato a fruit or a vegetable? We can debate that but I don't think it accomplishes much :)

The point is that anything in "Unlisted Data" is there because it's not in one or more user created list(s). The data is the same. The location is just different.

    If you're a Cook, it's a vegetable. If you're a Botanist, it's a fruit. No debate. ;)

    Cheers,
  • I still don't understand how I could have a route (created from a deleted trip) in the unlisted list and the route no be in my collection

Alas, I think we have a broken paradigm here...

Think of Unlisted Data as a smart list where the criteria is "data that only exists in My Collection".

What PSEABOLT mentions sounds like a bug. Are there any steps you're aware of to reproduce the issue?
  • I will try to reproduce the error. I was creating a trip using the same dates and deleting the trip. After I deleted the trip I would check and find a route, usually the first day route, remaining in my collection. See screen shots in above post. Other routes from the trip were deleted from my collection. I deleted the route from my collection and created another trip with the same date. After 5 or 6 deletes of the trip and deleting the left over routes in my collection. I checked the unlisted data list and found some routes I could not find in my collection but they were routes I had deleted from my collection that were left from deleting a trip. I bet if you make the delete trip remove everything associated with the trip from my collection the unlisted data list will be fixed.

    Thanks
  • I create a trip using (5/10/13 - 5/15/13) from GA to Dallas, TX. I have created and deleted this same trip several times. I had 4 routes in my collection and 4 routes in my trip as expected. There were no routes in unlisted data list. I deleted the trip. my collection had 5/10/13, 5/10/13 1, 5/10/13 2, 5/10/13 3, but 5/11/13 and 5/14/13-4/15/13 were deleted. See screen shot:

Installed the beta some days ago on my MacBook Air 11", MAC OS X 10.7.5.
    Map: City Navigator 2013.1 Europe

Activated a dirt road navigation dualsport motorcycle trip I did in sept. 2012.

    Dirt road zoom detail:
Smaller backroads and dirt roads still not visible beyond 1.5km zoom range - versus visible on 7km zoom on PC version.

You probably need to turn the detail up. That made the secondaries & dirt roads visible on my iMac. Without doing that it acted as you mentioned above.
