BaseCamp 4.2 beta is live

BaseCamp 4.2.0.2 introduces several new features and fixes some old issues. The Trip Planner, changeable libraries, significant improvement in find, and different profiles for legs of a route are some of the biggies. Note that several features are still a work in progress, but we wanted to go ahead and get feedback on the current state.

A complete list of features:
• Added Trip Planner (work-in-progress) (MacOS 10.7+ only)
• adds easy way to create trips
• create trips over several days
• round trip support
• printing trips
• add destinations along the route
• flying support (airport and flight look-up)
• time zone support
• Added initial support for different libraries which is patterned after iPhoto libraries. Feel free to try the feature out, but note that the next version will possibly break libraries created in this beta. This feature can be found under Preferences->Advanced->Workspaces
• Added support for different route profiles for different legs of a route
• Added support to have different folders and lists with the same name (as long as they have a different parent in the folder hierarchy)
• Added support for UK postal code search
• Added support for Yelp search (work-in-progress)
• Added support for named search (far away POIs should be found if it's an exact name match)
• Added support for category search (you can type "Hotels, Las Vegas, NV")
• Added quick search (hover over the map to invoke it)
• Added Irish Transverse Mercator grid
• Added support for displaying BirdsEye while in Basestation mode
• Added support for displaying and saving the track of the Basestation itself
• Added support for displaying the most recent update time for Basestation contacts
• Fixed issue with Garmap Southern Africa Topo & Rec 2012.3 - NT not being displayed BaseCamp

It can be downloaded from here

Edit: The second beta drop (BaseCamp 4.2.0.4) is now live. Use the above link to get it or go to https://forums.garmin.com/showthread.php?36289-BaseCamp-4-2-beta-is-live&p=179071#post179071 for more details. Note that 4.2.0.2 will not autoupdate to 4.2.0.4. You will need to manually update.
  • If I delete a planned trip and confirm the deletion of everything in the trip, some the routes are left in my collections. For example, create a trip 5/10/13 to 5/15/13, delete the trip. Create another trip using same dates and My Collection shows
Delete the trip again and my collection shows:

It appears to me this is not what we want happening.

Not done enough testing to be sure but are the numbers following the date added when the date is in My Collection? For example If

Trip Planner: Change from Day to Date

Scenario: Create a multi-Hub, multi-Day Trip. Then change from Day to Date mode. Route names do not change from Day to Date until there is a change in the Itinerary structure (adding a day, deleting a day).

    v4.2.0.4 Mixed-Travel route

Trying to Export or Send to Device a Mixed-Travel Route crashes BC repeatably. Tried with several mixed-routes. I first noticed this when I tried to transfer a Trip to my Montana which caused BC to crash. I finally figured out that it wasn't the Trip per se but the mixed-route that I had in one of the days.

There have been a couple of postings on the Trip-delete issue. The data is not deleted from My Collection and can be seen in the Unlisted Data list. This should be given the option of Delete from My Collection as with other List data.

The numbering following the Date is because of the "Same Name" issue when the data is in the same "list" or container I believe.

    Cheers,
  • And v4.2.0.4 still has the same behavior in that (as you stated) one needs to make an add/change/delete to the database (My Collection) before BaseCamp saves a new version of the "view". Just changing the view does not actually save a new version of the FolderData. But, even making a database edit has no effect on the Garmin Adventures "view" - it ain't changin'.

    Cheers,

We'll see if we can fix this for the release. Originally I thought this was working as intended, but after looking at the code, it looks like it was just an oversight. Thanks for the feedback.
  • KILLTIMER, Just to let you know, I have had no issues with the multiple "Collections" feature. It even made the transition from beta v4.2.0.2 to v4.3.0.4 without a hitch for me.

    Cheers,

Thanks Dan. I'm currently in Mexico with iPad only... Can't wait to get home and try the new beta.

I was in Mexico in January - I wasn't in a hurry to get back home. In fact, I didn't turn around and come home until I got to Ushuaia at the end of March. ;)

Now that you mention it, there is routes in the Unlisted Data list that I can't find in my collection. I guess this is what you mean by triple delete. I wonder if it is safe to assume if the route is in the unlisted data list, the route is not in a trip. I don't think I understand the unlisted data list, I thought is was only waypoints not being used in a route.

    Thanks

I don't think I understand the unlisted data list...

The "Unlisted Data" list is just a placeholder (not a real list) for anything that is not in one or more list(s).

The was a time when there was no "Unlisted Data" in BC and it was a hassle to find "orphaned" stuff.

As I recall there's two types of delete in BC: delete from list (would sent it to "Unlisted Data" if it wasn't in another list) and delete from database (i.e. nuke it).

I'd be less interested in returning if I had one of my bikes down here. Destination weddings are't my most favourite way to spend holiday time. On the coast north of PV, great dual sport country.
