Finding Waypoints by Mileage in Basecamp?

Hello,

I'm looking to plan a motorcycle ride across the country and I need to be able to find fuel at a 250 interval. I would like to just mark those spots as waypoints along the route I'm creating. I thought there was a way to do that and can't seem to find out how.

Also, is there a way to calibrate the routing speed of the vehicle to get a more true ETA?

I'm sorry if this has been discussed but I can't seem to find out how to do it.

Thanks in advance for the help.
  • You can set Proximity in any waypoint properties and it will then draw a ring at the appropriate distance, that would give you a rough guide.

Or open a routes properties, click the route directions tab and also the 'more info' box at the bottom. You'll then see cumulative distances along a route.

You can customise speeds in Activity Profiles.

That's how I look for Gas/Petrol stations on long trips. That is I right click on the map and use "Find Nearest..." (or whatever its called) around the point my vehicle will run out based on the routing distance.

That said in my experience Gas stations come'n'go on a regular basis and/or change names/locations so I only use Garmin POI's as a guide. In short I pay more attention to my fuel gauge than my GPS.

Thank you for your help! The proximity will give me a great place to start and figured that out. However, I can't seem to find out how to do the speed for ETA. When I look in activity profiles, it just gives me the avoidances and nothing about speed. I also can't seem to find a "more info" box when I open up the route. Thanks again for your help and quick response!

Options -> Activity Profile -> Routing tab -> Speed -> Customize (bottom of the dialog)

And if I scroll right within the route directions, I can get the total mileage to each way pt. That helps!

Exactly. That's better than a proximity waypoint since driving distance is not necessarily straight line.

It's working well, because I can get a rough estimate with the proximity and then hone it in with the exact mileage. Thanks again. I still can't seem to find the speed on my screen. I'm going to try to attach what I'm looking at to see if maybe I just need more coffee! :)

I did ... but thought routing options would be similar, maybe there isn't a speed adjustment on the mac version:confused:
