BC fails to download new waypoints

All of a sudden BC quit downloading newly created waypoints from GPSMAP 62st. Yes, I've selected 'waypoints' on the Receive dialog. Yes, the waypoints exist on the GPS. Tracks download just fine, and previously I've had no issues receiving waypoints.

What to do? :confused:

I'd try power-cycling the unit.

I'd already tried that. No effect.

I've always gotten 'Problem communicating with Garmin device' warnings when I attach the GPS, but that didn't seem to affect anything. When I just recycled the power I noticed I received four such warnings, when previously I'd only gotten three. Anyone know a likely source of these? (they've been present since day one with this particular 62 st.

Those warnings are usually caused by one or more corrupt gpx files (in the folder Garmin\GPX on the device). Copy all gpx files to your computer (for backup) and delete them from the device.

That seems to have fixed the waypoint download problem and I'm only getting two 'Problem communicating....' messages now. Will see how it goes.

You shouldn't get any warning at all...
Check for gpx files in other folders and on the SD card (if you have one), and (since this is the Mac section) very important: always empty the trash after deleting files on the GPS!

Good ideas. I presume it's a good idea to leave the directory structure intact.

Garmin GPSes are also very sensitive to USB cable resistance. Try another cable. I've had cables that work fine with other USB devices refuse to play nice with my nuvis or zumo.

It certainly is. Try JaVaWa Device Manager. It will find every GPX file on the device; it has also an option to check for corrupt files.

Thanks. I'd already tried several USB cables thinking that might be an issue. In addition I removed the USB hub from the equation by connecting directly to the Mac.

Will hunt for elusive GPX files. (I didn't think to remove them from the SD card, so most won't be too elusive.) I did find several that looked like fragments in the earlier exercise. If that doesn't work, I'll try the device manager.

Finished, I think

Ok, I went back through both the Garmin and SD devices and deleted all the GPX files this time. Disconnected the GPS, reconnected, and no error messages on reboot. Any particular reason(s) why so many files were corrupt?
