Combined the two search boxes into one

This new and improve search is hard on old guys. I have some question.

1. Have we lost the popup suggestion for cities in the near field that is now combined? Being a poor speller and guessing at cities, I used to popup list often.
2. If I center on a city, it appears to me that the all points of interest is limited to 300 ft. is there a way to increase the search distance?
3. Is it possible to search user data if the map is not centered close to the user data?
  • Please tell me I am missing something on the new search. It appears to me the only way to center your map on a new location is to close the search list at the left and type a city, state. You have to know the exact spelling of the city. All other search just return hits for about 300 ft. What am I doing wrong.
  • Must be a mac basecamp issue, my searches go on for miles, last one I did stopped looking at 93 miles and produced the results in a few seconds :)

    Are you using version 4.1?

Agreed, they need to bring back a City and Town search option for those of us who are geographically or spelling challenged.

Also, it appears that the dropdown for Find:Address does not function reliably or even at all sometimes. To demonstrate type the word "Main" in the search field and go to the Dropdown and select Find:Address. If your system is like mine it will immediately open the results pane to the Addresses heading, clear the search text, say it searched within 500 miles and that "No Results Found." Now just go up to the Search Box, type in the word "Main", press Enter and watch what happens. In my case I end up with 30 results! Same search just initiated in a different way!

It looks like for all items on the Drop Down except Address it just searches from the Center of the Map and does NOT use the text in the search box to filter the results as I expected it to do. Searching from the Map center is fine but if I put something in the Search Box I want it used to filter the results,

The city finder with suggestions is still available under "Options"

The default option in Mac BaseCamp is to look up to 500 miles. You may be looking at the TopResults list that shows only the nearest 5. To see more, click on the "more" button.
    3. Is it possible to search user data if the map is not centered close to the user data?

I notice that user data is not being found unless it is really close. Ideally the search should find user data within 500 miles. We will look into this.

All finds initiated from the menu clears the text in the search box. The search box is also cleared when you close find. The text in the search box is preserved when you click on "options" and choose a different search type.

Thanks for info. My system (1997 iMac, 2.4GHz Core 2 Duo w 4GB) must have been running pretty slow when I tried partial entries last night. I would quickly type Phil and hit enter hoping to see Philadelphia show up in the found list. Now that I know how to do it the minor wait for the list to populate is immaterial. :)

Another quirk of the search box in options:

Pretend you want to find the town called Berwyn, PA.

Type Ber into the box and wait for the dropdown to be populated (it may or may not happen). If it does backspace one letter in the search box and you will see the list change as it should. Now add the letter back and see what happens.

On my system I almost never get another list populated. But when I backspace the new list I am shown usually has places starting with Ber shown at the top of the list even though the "r" is no longer in the search box. And, if I add it back then I usually get no list at all!

Likewise, type "Bad" into the box and get nothing. Backspace to remove the "d" and get a list of items starting with the letters Bad. :(

Sorry for the 3rd reply but there is a City search option that helps with the spelling. Go to FIND:OPTIONS and under TYPE select "Points of Interest" and then in MORE OPTIONS choose Cities!
