BaseCamp version 4.1

I just downloaded version 4.1 and installed. Seems to be working fine but why no mention on this forum? Am I missing something? Version 4.1 appear to be a major upgrade, it has cloud syncing but I can find instructions on setup.

Thanks
  • We have removed 4.1.0 from the autoupdate server until the issue with certain gpi files is fixed is fixed. We are wrapping up the changes today, which means they should be available next week on the servers. Again, sorry for the inconvenience.
  • Just "upgraded" to Basecamp 4.1 (Mac OS X 10.7.5). Basecamp crashes as soon as I plug in my nuvi 1390 with Australia & NZ maps. As far as I can tell there is no file 006D135900.gpi on the nuvi. Any help appreciated.

Can you PM me the list of gpi files on your 1390 and their sizes? I strongly suspect that it's the same file under a different name, but I want to make sure. Thanks.

Here are the files in the POI folder on my 1390. Hope it helps.
    AUSTRALIACYCLOPSSAMPLE.GPI 34 kB
    poi.gpi 51 kB
    Speed Zones.gpi 168 kB
    Redlight Cameras.gpi 169 kB
    Redlight Speed Cemeras 182 kB
    Schools ACT.gpi 184 kB
    Schools QLD.gpi 258 kB
    Schools VIC. gpi 341 kB
    Schools NSW.gpi 396 kB
    Speed Cameras.gpi 1.4 MB
  • @azdrmn:

What is the purpose of the 006xxx.gpi file? It looks like airport data, but wouldn't that normally be embedded in the maps?

    @RVINCE01:

If I were a betting man, I'd say that removing the speed cameras will fix your problem. It is the largest file and the 006 file is about the same size. But you can always remove them all (after making a backup) and put them back one at a time to see which file is unhappy with BC.

  • Sure, I can rename my waypoints on my GPSr to conform with BC's limitation here, (and keep a list for what the next available waypoint name should be) but that is not the point.

    A couple of quick examples:
    1) I use 'W' to mark walleyes caught while fishing. BC turns these into 'W3,' 'W61,' 'W125,' ext. Not hard to figure out the original waypoint name but it's sure not a naming system I want cluttering up my GPSr screen.
    2) I use numbers for BWCA campsites and to keep them short I don't use the 2,000+ unique USFS site numbers, rather '1' through '5' (or '12,' or however many campsites are on that particular lake). This one gets really weird, because it is often difficult to sleuth out whether BC's campsite '121' was originally named '1' or '12' or '121.' (Yes, there are that many on Lac La Croix...)

It just seems that a better folder hierarchy than currently employed by BC could allow this.

I would use a icon to mark walleyes. IF you don't like the fish in the list, BC accepts custom icons.
  • Dan, I had just the same problem with my Zumo 660 and spent much of the morning on the phone to UK support who suggested the only answer was an RMA - they had no idea of this fix (I have forwarded it to them). A great piece of detective work on your part Dan, many thanks, David

    Hi,
I have Nuvi 765T BaseCamp crashes after connecting it the computer. Basecamp version 4.1.0. Garmin updated today with newest maps and firmware.
It doesn't matter if SD card installed into garmin or not - BC crashes anyway. BC crashes when I see it loads content of GPS.

    Any Ideas how to solve?

    regards,
    Edvinas
  • BaseCamp 4.1.1 was just posted at http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=4449 and should be up on the auto update servers momentarily. Changes:

Fixed an issue where BaseCamp will crash when plugging in certain nuvis or zumos
Fixed multiple issues with city search in find options
Fixed an issue with user data search
