Changing default waypoint when Basecamp opens

When I open maps they always seem to open to a default location. How do you change this in Basecamp when the map opens to a place you don't want it to? For example every time I open Basecamp I want it to open to my home. Instead it opens to some waypoint way out in the country I have seldom if ever viewed in recent history.

  • Maybe it's different on the Mac version but on Windows BC opens where you left it.

I just figured it out. I have 3 GPS's and 3 different versions of the same map. V3, V4, and V5. The V3 map seemed to have had the point in question open.

I don't want to delete V3 and V4 yet because they were used for upgrading to V5 on all three GPS's.

  • Are you sure it relates to map versions? This is a known bug in BaseCamp (Mac). Mine always opens to Brooklyn, NY, for example, regardless of map version. The Garmin folks here know about it.

    Dan,

I'm pretty sure it is related to the other version map. Now it opens where I want it to. I have similar behavior with other maps. For instance I go to Tinian. I have 3 different CNMI (Tinian) maps presumably from different sources. If I open one map and size up Tinian and then close that map and then open another one, then Tinian opens up in the same place and the same size. I can't imagine why that would be but it actually feels more like a feature than a bug.

  • It's a recognized glitch in BC for Mac ver. 4.0.4. They said they'd fix it in the next version, but they seem to have gotten busy elsewhere. Seems like it opens in the area last closed IF you make some change during that session like a new waypoint or list or something. Otherwise, it reopens in the same spot each time.
  • I think you're correct that some form of change "sets" the default spot, but I have experimented with several -- waypoints, routes, etc. -- and it still opens in Brooklyn every time. Not a huge problem, but somewhat irritating.

Bl**dy irritating I find! I wish they'd fix it pronto, or at least advise us how to work round it...
