Feature Request: Adventures

I've run into some real show stoppers for me in using Adventures on my Montana. First, let me say that I'm probably one of only a small handful of folks trying to use Adventures in this way but I see it as real potential for those of us that put on organized "adventures" or even long day-rides.

I want to use Adventures to create my "Day's ride data" so my ride/tour participants simply can click on the Adventures app and then easily choose the correct Day (by the Name of the Adventure) or part of a day's ride. So, what's stopping me from doing this today? Well, really not much except that once transferred to the GPS the Adventures are not sortable alphabetically - or even by proximity.

In addition, the GPS (the Montana Series anyway) will only show 20 of the Adventures I transfer even if I transfer 30 - or 100. Twenty wouldn't be totally upsetting, although insufficient, but if I transfer more than 20 I don't know which one is going to "drop-out" of the list - they are all still transferred to the device just not shown in the list. (Yes, I've communicated this request to the Montana Team)

In creating over 100 Adventures (not published) I soon realized that using them in this way was going to make too much work trying to maintain them in the long run because the data in the Adventures has been decoupled from the data in BaseCamp's My Collection. If I change anything in the original data I have to go find all of the Adventures I used it in and update them. This has stopped me from deploying Adventures to my clients for our Tours because I cannot manage them efficiently.

I know I've requested this in the past but only being able to transfer one Adventure at a time to the GPS is rather antiquated.

Here comes the list of what I think would make Adventures really easy to create/use/manage in BaseCamp:

  • Allow batch transfer of Adventures to the GPS
  • Adventures need to be manageable like a List in that the data I use from My Collection stays linked when I place it in an Adventure.

OK, that's it for now...

Cheers,
