Alaska birdseye view orientation

The birdseye imagery of the Brooks Range in Alaska in basecamp is shown at an angle, orientation seems as though i am above the equator looking at 45 deg (or something) at the topo imagery. As when you move the orientation on google maps to something other than directly above the area you are viewing. This is very misleading and difficult to get oriented with compared to printed topo maps of the area I have. In fact when measuring distances with the mesuring tool a East/West line is twice as long as a North/South line. I am not in 3d view by the way.

Is there anyway to correct this or adjust that view so that I am directly over the area?
