New Mountain Lion Mac and fresh install of BaseCamp. Now BaseCamp does not read anything from the Nuvi 1490. Lots of waypoints and track logs. But nothing from BaseCamp.

Created a waypoint/favorite and uploaded it. Then was successful at downloading the same no matter it was just one of many on the GPS, it was the only thing that downloaded.

Drove 800 miles with the GPS and now even that one waypoint won't download.

So what is messed up, the GPS or the installation of BaseCamp 3.3.2?
  • I'm ready to say the cause of the problem is identified. Have installed 10.8.4 (3) times the past 24 hours. 1) not case sensitive (works), 2) case sensitive (doesn't work), 3) not case sensitive (works again). And my normal configuration is case sensitive (doesn't work).

BaseCamp will not read/write data to my 765 or 1490 if the operating system is booted from a case sensitive filesystem.

In the 3 cases above BaseCamp is installed on my usually booted hard drive with case sensitive filesystem. On a 2nd hard drive I installed 10.8.4 three times but ran BaseCamp from the original drive.

The drive was not cloned, it was initialized using Apple's 4.46GB "Install OS X Mountain Lion.app"

When BaseCamp fires finds the GPS for the first time it starts downloading maps. I can see my waypoints and routes. Just the way it should. But when it doesn't work BaseCamp shows the presence of the GPS as if no data or maps were present.

Garmin Express does not have any problems with the GPSs.

Same for BaseCamp 4.1.2 and 4.2.1.
  • 15 months later Base Camp still does not speak to GPS if the boot filesystem was formatted with the case sensitive option.

Garmin Express doesn't mind, but Base Camp is totally confused.
