Trying to figure out how to edit the routing method. defaults to along-road routing method. I just completed an update to the software and it was not an issue before.

any suggestions? I have the trailhead, waypoints, and destination input but the route takes you off trail and onto roads.... no clue how to fix it...

Thank you.

so the question is how to turn off the along-road routing...... please help.
  • You may not realise that this is not a BC problem but a map problem. You need to be using the correct map. I use a topo map for my walking routes and BC works perfectly with it.

I'm new to BaseCamp and I have to say this is very frustrating. A typical mountain bike route is going to consist of roads and trails / bridleways. It seems I cannot mix along road routing with direct routing using the route tool. Has anyone managed to do this?
  • I don't believe it's possible but seem to recall one of the developers (Falagar?) saying it was on their 'to do' list

I use direct routing pretty much for all my walking/biking routes so that's the current 'work around'

It is possible, with effort, to do it in MapSource. I have a few routes where I did it (to get around map errors).

In MapSource one can use auto-routing, and in the middle of route creation switch to "No map" (or a map without routing data), make one or more point-to-point sections, and then switch back to the original map to finish the route. That said any route "recalculation" will undo that effort.

I've no idea if the same trick works in BaseCamp.

See this screen capture of a route with a direct-route section (circled in red).

Thanks for the replies. I've played around with the direct routing and whilst it does work it certainly takes more time. A mixed mode would be really useful and I'm glad to read that it is on the todo list.
  • Nothing to do with Basecamp or your GPS. Garmin OS mapping isn't routeable. There is an underlying road network which is routeable but there's no routing along footpaths etc.

Regardless of the map and whether parts are routable or not, a mixture of on-road and direct routing should be something that comes as a standard tool in route creation software. No?

    Basecamp now allows that :)

I can't see how. Am I missing a trick here? Is there an update I'm not aware of?

    All tips/advice gratefully received.

    :)
  • Create the route then double click it or right click and select open to bring up the route properties box. Right click any point where you want to change activity and select Edit via point, then choose the different activity. Unfortunately you can't 'block change' points so you need to do it with every one that you want the new activity to apply from.

I hope that at some point a 'block change' will be introduced.
