route select defaults to unrequested position

Hi,
trying to create a route for hiking in the desolation wilderness with basecamp. We have mac osx 10.7.4 and running the basecamp version 3.3.2.0. We have selected the hiking activity. After selecting the route tool, clicking on upper echo lake, then the first spot on the trail, basecamp always draws a line straight down to highway 50. After each new point is clicked, it just draws another magenta line down to, then back up from highway 50. We tried to use the select pointer to move it, but it always keeps drawing lines back to highway 50? Any ideas? Also we have GPSMAP62stc.
  • Routes will only follow roads or trails on 24K topo maps. 100K topo maps will only draw straight lines. Is the path you want to take showing on the map? If the path or trail you want is showing on a 24k map, try routing just a section of the trail. I have had problems getting BC to route trails where the trail intersects with a road. Starting a few feet off the road worked for me. You can always draw a path on the map using the track tool.

Thanks for the info. I am using the 100k per-installed maps database. I had no idea when I bought this that it wouldn't do a route on a trail like the Pacific Crest Trail. Should have done my homework!
  • Sorry, It won't even route on roads. The tracking tool works well. You can continuous trace the trail or just click on points on the trail.
