So I've loaded a few routes into my Nuvi 550 and used the "my data" to load the routes. I also see how you can delete them from the "custom route" section. But when I go to "load from file" there are many routes in there - old ones, repeat ones, etc. Where on the device are these files and how can I delete them. I created a "test route" and there must be 5 test route files.

It has to be a .gpx file somewhere.

    inside Garmin/GPX/
    Could have any name XXX.gpx

    Or in the Trash

Open the trash while your Garmin is connected to your computer in mass storage mode.

    Or on your SD/microSD card.

I delete all routes from my Nuvi 765 by the following steps:
    1. Delete all current routes
    2. Connect to a computer via USB
    3. Delete the folder Garmin/GPX
    4. Restart the Nuvi.

All routes should now be deleted. You don't need to worry about deleting the GPX folder, the system will create a new empty one when necessary.
  • If you delete anything on your device using Finder, don't forget to also empty the trash. Unfortunately Apple saves all the files you delete in the .Trashes folder and sometimes the device will find them there.

You can also use a utility BlueHarvest. This automatically deletes all hidden .files from any non Mac disk, including .Trashes

Thank goodness Apple decided to treat all Volumes the same.

Thus avoiding the confusion..... will this go in the trash or be deleted permanently. Never could figure out the not logical method of windows.
  • It goes to an hidden file .trash on the gps but if you empty the trash with the volumn mounted on your Mac, it will delete the file in the trash on the gps.
