Route Changes

I don't have the Mac BC version, but on the PC you use the 'move tool' to move waypoints to where you want them, or any of the other tools (erase, insert). You then may have to right click the route and select Advanced, Recalculate or alternatively Route Properties, Recalculate.

You're perhaps missing the 'recalculate' step?

I am guessing the biking preference is causing the problem. It looks like you are asking BC to use a road that the biking preferences has been told to avoid. I would try difference routing preference before I tried shaping the route by dragging. Shortest would be my first try.

We have a Selector Tool, which we use to drag things. There is no move tool for us. Nor erase, nor insert. Also no right click on any route. When I drag parts of the route, it automatically recalculates, and doesn't allow me to erase parts...not that I know of. It sounds like the PC version is more natural.

I see. So I should change to car first? I was going to ask about that whole thing of shortest distance vs. fastest time. Is that not the same on a touring bike?

Just to be clear, what would you do? Change to a car? I also want to ride along beach boardwalks and all that, so the car option would disallow me to do that.

There is a DIRECT option. Perhaps that is the best way.

Do you have 'activity profiles' on the mac version? You should be able to create an 'activity profile' that suits you. However bear in mind that you may be limited by the detail contained in the map, eg if it doesn't have cycle routes it won't route you along them ;)

Yes. I have turned some off, and have the following turned on: Automotive, Walking, Bicycling, Tour Cycling, and Direct. I'm not worried about the detail (other than roads), but the limit to which I can post routes.

Direct routing is a straight line, only use for places where there are no road shown on the map. If you selective Automative (car) and shortest you should get the most direct route. Be sure and check Routing preferences as your avoidance checks will change the route. Once you get the route, you can shape by dragging or inserting waypoints. BaseCamp wii follow (route) a trail on 24K topo maps. Just try dragging the route to the boardwalk and see if it follows the boardwalk. If it don't try walking activity. Depending on your GPS you may have a hard time getting your BC route loaded on you gps. If you have a Montana, your don't have a problem but most other GPS, will recalculate the route and if the map and preferences don't match, you may get a different route. Unless you have a Montana, check the routing preferences available on your GPS, match the routing preferences in BC and insert waypoints to get the route you want.
