micro SD preloaded card map not showing in Garmin BaseCamp

I have a nuvi 2595 LMT. I bought a micro SD with a pre-loaded European maps (Garmin City Navigator Europe NT 2012 Map Card MicroSD/SD). I have BaseCamp version 3.3.2 installed. In BaseCamp under devices, the micro SD is displayed as a folder listed as 'Memory Card' but it does not recognize the European maps. The 'City Navigator North America' which came with the product is recognized.

I've seen older posts which recommended various actions to try to get the European map recognized in BaseCamp but nothing I tried seemed to help (such as putting the maps on a memory stick in the 'garmin folder', having just that on my PC without connecting my Garmin, or trying to find the North America maps to rename.

I think BaseCamp is meant to be able to see the Europe maps as installed on the pre-loaded micro SD card. Is this true? If so, can someone give me advice on how to make this work? Is there a different workaround I can employ to set up my trip to Europe (other programs, etc)?

Thank you.

  • Are you sure your SD is genuine?

    Try with Gmaptool:
    - Make a backup copy of your SD on PC,
    - Load your map to Gmaptool, use "Add Files" on "Files" tab. Or simply drag & drop gmapsupp.img from SD to file list on this tab.
    - Go to "Options" tab and check "Advanced options" and "Experimental options".
    - Got to "Write" tab, select "TRE parameters" and input following values: 1, 3, 17, forth field leave empty.
    - Click "Write all".

Now try your map in BaseCamp.
  • This is fascinating. I'm not kidding.

    Thanks,

Authenticity; GMapTool Results; Not Visible Yet

I bought the SD card through amazon.com. The seller was 'worldshop'. Their feedback looks good and the price seemed commensurate with the product ($77.98). The packaging looks valid with the Garmin logo on all the material including the chip packaging. I am able to use the maps on the Garmin itself; at least I was able to find an address in France.

I wrote the fields as specified using GMapTool. The action seemed to complete successfully. I kept the output in case there is anything you'd like me to look at, etc. It looks like it wrote many 'maps' (many lines of output similar to the following) with the last number varying primarily between 5, 9, 13 or 33.

    Map I07FD7A9 priority 30 N, TRE parameters 1 3 17 13

I checked the GMAPSUPP.IMG file on the SD card and the date modified field reflects the new date.

Unfortunately, the maps are still not visible through BASECAMP.

    I appreciate all the help.

    Additional Comments

I don't know if this is significant, but I thought I would note it here. After turning on the mass storage, the SD chip shows as disk 'E' and the Garmin as disk 'G' on my PC and in JaVaWa and GMapTool. However, when I bring up Basecamp, under devices, it just shows

    nuvi 2595 unit # disk 'G'
    (folder) All Data
    (folder) Memory Card
    City Card North America...

I don't understand the relationship between the above referenced memory card which I assume is the micro SD and the fact that the GMAPSUPP.IMG is written on disk 'E' , (if any).

  • I have assumed, that your map is already corrected by JDM, my procedure was only an additional try. So if you did it on a clean gmapsupp, try to apply JDM again.

Next thing you can try is to clean BaseCamp data. BaseCamp remembers some data for each map, it could use old status instead of reading map again. BaseCamp data are in user directory, for Windows 7 this is:

    C:\Users\(user name here)\AppData\Local\Garmin\BaseCamp

You can clean content of subdirectories: CardProductCache and ProductDataCache.

Deleting Caches - Preloaded SD Map Visible in BaseCamp

BaseCamp now recognizes the preloaded (European) map on my SD :-)

I had some trouble deleting the cache files not related to Garmin, ie Windows 7 is very annoying about security, permissions, and hidden files. For posterity sake I just want to mention that I did uninstall and reinstall basecamp as well, but I did this to try to get around some difficulties with deleting the cache files (however uninstalling BaseCamp did NOT delete those cache files).

    Thank you

As soon as the search feature is initalized for the SD map, I'll try it.
