Selective Tracks on BaseCamp

I have imported various tracks collected by the GPS onto BaseCamp (Mac version). These tracks will all be reflected in the BC whenever the program is opened and this is confusing and make the map looks cluttered with too much information.

Is there a way for the user to select which track is to be shown in BC? I remember this can be done in MapSource.

Would appreciate any guidance from the seasoned users here.

Thank you.
  • I never work from the master My Collection list that shows everything. Organize you geo data using lists, just select New List from the File menu. Move the geo objects (tracks, waypoints, routes, etc.) you want to with to the list. Only the objects in the list display when the list is selected. The list contains pointers (shortcuts) to the geo objects in the Collection. Right click and select delete from collection to totally delete a geo object.

Thank you, PSEABOLT for the guide. I moved my POIs to a folder called My POIs and the tracks to My Tracks and that apparently clear up the map and make it easier to read and navigate. :)

My Collection will still display ALL the files that I have uploaded to BC and trying to delete a file under My Collection will also cause the same file in a separate folder to be deleted.

Noticed if I click on say, My Tracks, again all tracks will be shown on the maps. Similarly, if My POIs is clicked, all POIs will be shown. Is there a way to display only a particular track that I am interested short of creating many folders to store the numerous tracks and POIs that I have?

BaseCamp's "My Collection" is a database for ALL of your data. The List Folders and Lists are just "views" of your data. So, as you point out, when you create a List for Tracks and "copy" your tracks to that List you just created a "Tracks" view of the data in your "My Collections". If you change or edit one of the Tracks in your My Collections/My Tracks folder, that Track in the database (My Collection) is also changed - since they are actually the same data object.

If you want to work on a Track or any BaseCamp data and not see any other of your data on the Map, you do need to create a temporary List and copy only that data (Track) to it. Once you have finished modifying your data you can delete the Track in the temporary list - but, only preform a Delete From My Collection when you want to permanently delete data from the database.

    Cheers,
  • The temporary folder that Dan mention is a good solution but now that BC allows folder and subfolders to store your list, if I am working on a trip, I usually create a new list and name it something that denotes the location. I put all my geo data pertaining to the trip in the List. I create folders and subfolders to organize my trips and collapse the folders with the triangles to maintain a short list under MyCollection.
