adding comments to multiple waypoints

When I add a common comment to multiple waypoints at once, and the waypoints have preexisting comments, all the pre-existing comments are overwritten by the word "multiple". Is there a way to avoid this and retain the pre-existing comments AND the new comment?
  • There is currently no way to add text to multiple comments. The operation does overwrite the previous comments. It's not a perfect solution, but you could create a file with the date as a title and add it to all of the waypoints.

The behavior of leaving <Multiple> in the comment field is a bug and we'll fix that. We'll look into adding text after <Multiple> leaving the previous test in the waypoint.

    multiple comments

Thank you very much for the prompt reply.

I found that if all the pre-existing comments are the same, then they are preserved, after the date is added to a string of data at once.

What I'm trying to do is preserve the waypoint creation date, so the biologists I work with can use BaseCamp and keep the creation date intact automatically after importing into Basecamp. BaseCamp seems to always defer to the "last modified date". I was adding the date to comments as it is preserved that way no matter what Basecamp does later on.

Could the "detail data view" window be made to display both the modified date AND the creation date? After all, its preserved in the track files.

The older series 60 gps's automatically added the creation date to the comment field, which was great, but it was removed from the newer models for some reason. (limited text space?) Is there a way to get that function back with a plug-in or something?

Garmin receivers do not change the waypoint creation date when the waypoint name, symbol, or comment is changed.

BaseCamp overwrites the waypoint creation date when ANY field is changed.

Waypoint creation dates are easily lost in BaseCamp.

    Can BaseCamp's behavior be changed?
Can later model Garmin receiver firmware be changed to write the creation date into the comment field?

Dear Garmin development teams, Please solve this problem!
