KML/Z File Import

Is anyone else having problems Importing a KML/Z file? I've tried importing just one "waypoint" and nothing happens after I select the file and click Import.

Here's my problem; I have the same data in a KML and a KMZ file. The KML file is 2.1MB and was exported directly from Google "My Places". The KMZ file is 390KB and was created by Importing the KML file into Google Earth and then Exporting the data as a KMZ.

When I try to import the KML file into BaseCamp, as noted above, nothing happens.

When I import the KMZ file it only takes a few seconds and the data is imported correctly.

I have tried this Google Maps produced KML import process with several KML files (different data) all with the same result.

I guess at this point I'll assume there is something in the Google Maps produced KML file that Google Earth cleaned up in creating the KMZ output file. Can't attach example as I don't have any more Upload space. But, this should be reproducible by anyone.

A Request: When a KMZ/L file is being Imported there is only a short "pinwheel" displayed indicating an "in work" process. But the pinwheel disappears long before the Import process is finished. I mean like 60sec. before the Import is finished - when it does finish.

Could you please provide a more indicative "in work" indicator. How about a progress indicator on the Status Bar?

Interesting that I'm the only one having issues with importing KML/Z files. These files work in every other program I have that will render KML/Z data. The only KML/Z file I can import only has one waypoint (marker) in it.
  • Download to GE?

My question is the other way around; can I download tracks from 450t into GE? I'm sure I've even done it before but I just get 'No data downloaded'. I have one track set as the Current map and it seems to connect OK. What am I doing wrong? Or was it just my imagination that I ever did it?
  • I think if you move the track to BaseCamp, select the track, go to the view menu, select View Data in Google Earth. The track will be shown in google earth and stored under temporary data.
  • Think you're right ... mine works that way anyway;)

Hi all, just got my 3590LM a couple weeks ago and started using the latest BaseCamp last week. It is a good program and can become a great one with some changes and enhancements. So far I've spent around 4-5 hours on the phone with tech sup discussing some problem areas I've found. So many in fact that I can't count on BC to reliably manage my waypoints or routes.

There is a list of problem notes in my account that tech sup has verified, entered and forwarded to the appropriate department/s. I won't give account specifics here, but if you are with Software Dev you can send me a private email and I would be glad to help.

    Regards!
