How to load TOPO U.S. 2008 version 4.00 DVD into Mac BaseCamp?

I use Mac OS X 10.6.8 and BaseCamp 3.3.1. I have the Garmin TOPO U.S. 2008 Version 4.00 DVD. When I insert the DVD into my Mac nothing runs. Neither with BaseCamp already running or not. And I don't see anything on the DVD that appears to run on the Mac. How do I load it?

Thanks

You may have the Windows version of Topo 2008 - I can't remember whether this version was even available for the Mac. When you open up the disk, what files do you see?

If you don't see a a .gmap or .gmapi file or folder anywhere, then it is probably the Windows version. The Windows version would also have a .exe file that is the installer.

If you have the Windows version, it can be installed on a Windows machine, then converted for your Mac, so maybe a friend with Windows can help? After installing from disk on the Windows machine, use Garmin Mapconverter to translate into a .gmapi package, then copy it to your Mac using a USB flash drive, DVD or network. Double-clicking the .gmapi file will open MapManager on your mac and install. http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=3898
