Converting tracks

When I convert a walking track from my Oregon 450 to a Route it acquires a load of blue flags which obscure the paths taken. I can't find an option that allows me to set the points as dots instead.

Also, is there a way to hide all the other routes & tracks on the map when you want to look at a single track in isolation. I have several overlapping routes I follow in the locality and seeing them clearly on the map is near impossible.
  • I may be able to help with the 2nd question.

To get a "clean" workspace, create a new list (I call it Temp) and copy into it just what you need -- ie one track in your case.

Then MOVE (not copy, not duplicate) any routes you create in Temp to whichever list you'd like them in and then delete everything in Temp so you are ready for the next task.

    dan,

I didn't know that BaseCamp List's supported the OS X "Move" action. How are you "moving" an object if you are not using Copy or Duplicate?

    Cheers,
  • Dan,

It doesn't, is the short answer [g].

But for this to work you really do have to move the file, not copy it or duplicate it.

Copying could work OK if you also remember to delete the original before attempting to delete any waypoints. So if you copy and paste and then delete the original, that means you have (in English, not OS X) "moved" it.

The easiest way to accomplish this kind of "move" is to drag and drop the route file (or more correctly, its alias as created in the list where you are working).

Duplicate triggers the problem of duplicate waypoints with the "1" appended.

I realize my post used somewhat imprecise language, but my goal was to make sure nobody confused this with duplicating or simply copying.

Select the blue flags using command click or shift click to select a range. Double click the selection and select the dot symbol. The comments section will show <multiple> when you are batch changing.

Thanks - that works a treat

This bit I don't get. I assume you mean select the flags in the Properties dialog for the Route. When I do this, double-clicking does not reveal anything - even for one point there seems to be no option to change the icon...

  • Select them in the list they appear, lower left corner of BC window. Now that I think about it, they portably do not appear in the waypoint list as they are special waypoints added by BC. Sorry I missed leaded you.
