List or Folder

What's the difference between a list and a folder in the left sidebar?

A list can exist inside a folder or "loose" in the left pane. Lists contain routes and waypoints.

Folders can be used to organize lists.

My Collection is a special folder which cotains two smart lists (Last Week, Last Month) and all of your data.
