Problems transferring to Montana 600

I am running a montana 600 with the latest version of base camp on a mac - this has generally been problem free. last night i plugged the unit in to my mac to write and transfer a route to it. base camp told me there was a software update for the montana which i installed. This appeared to do fine (although the unit did not restart automatically when unplugged from the mac - this has happened before). Anyway, now i don't seem to be able to transfer My Collection to the montana. All is get is “the transfer was not completed” in red text at the bottom of the Garmin GPS transfer window. I have restarted my computer, the garmin has a full charge.
when i do this i have the option of selecting Montana 600 or what i guess is the serial number or something of the memory card in the device - according to finder on my mac there are several Gb of space left on either.
I have also looked for where My collection sits on my mac hard drive - if i go to Library, Garmin, Basecamp there are a lot of files but none with any names recognisable as the tracks or routes i see in base camp (which makes me nervous).
I can drag and drop routes and tracks within base camp from My Collection to the Montana but if i select all and try this only a few get transferred.
Any advice really really welcome

    I would first recommend that you remove the µSD card from the Montana and then connect your Montana and backup your personal data (Profiles/Shortcuts/Filters/GPX/etc). Then delete any GPX data from the Montana. Disconnect the Montana and do a Master Reset (Turn unit off, Press-and-hold upper left hand corner of screen and Power On. Hold screen until you get the "...delete all user data?" then answer yes). When you get the Language selection setup screen. Power Off.

    Connect your Montana and start BaseCamp. When the Montana is recognized - try transferring your data to it (internal memory of course).

    If all goes well, delete any GPX data from the µSD card and install back into Montana. Try transferring data to the card.

    Hi - i have tried this exactly but hit exactly the same error when trying to transfer My Collection to the memory card free Montana.

    How much data are you trying to transfer at once? It would appear that you have some bad data in there. If you can you might try narrowing down what might be a bad Route (usually).
