The beta is downloadable from: http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=5704

We are very interested in your feedback, please report bugs and oddities you find, and comment on the new features.

Changes from 3.2.2 to 3.3.0.1 are:
  • User data management:

  • Added Detailed Data table view for user data
  • Added shaping point support. Shaping points are not announced when you reach them. Note that not all devices will support this feature.
  • Improved graphing of track data.
  • Added display settings to adjust width of routes and tracks.
  • Added support for importing waypoints and tracks from KML/KMZ files.
  • Added ability for smart lists to follow any or all critiera
  • Added ability to drag URL from browser to the waypoint or track Link: field
  • Added waypoint category to the waypoint dialog. This is synced with newer devices that support waypoint categories.
  • Added contact and address info to the waypoint dialog.
  • Added grade to the track dialog.
  • Improved printing of routes.
  • Fixed issues with sending routes to the zumo.
  • Fixed issue when duplicating a route. BaseCamp will now also duplicate the waypoints in that route.
  • Activities:
  • Added more activity profiles, with improved activity routing on supported maps.
  • Added specific avoidances for various road classes, removed the road selection slider.
  • Added ability to create custom activity profiles.
  • Made activity selectable from relevant preference pages.
  • Converting activity profiles where vehicle doesn't match the default for the profile to a custom activity profile.
  • General:
  • Changed to read all GPX files on a memory card, similar to how devices behave.
  • Added the ability to create OpenCaching.com geocaches from a geocache or waypoint.
  • Changed notifications from pop-ups to less obtrusive notifications.
  • Added ability to use a key to temporarily switch to the hand tool. Defaults to the space key.
  • Added ability to switch the behavior of scrolling between zooming and scrolling.
  • Fixed an issue where reading data from fitness device caused BaseCamp to crash.
  • Fixed an issue with importing certain GPX files with geocaches.
  • Fixed an issue where downloading BirdsEye could cause BaseCamp to crash.

Note that we have seen an issue when BaseCamp is launched by the installer at the end of the installation. If you have an issue, report the issue, then just run BaseCamp from the Applications folder.
  • You guys rock!!!

I don't even mind having to update half of my BaseCamp article. :o

    Thanks!

    Cheers,
  • Activity - Direct Routing

    Direct Routing doesn't. It's stuck in Along-road-routing.

    Cheers,
    • Added ability to use a key to temporarily switch to the hand tool. Defaults to the space key.

Space Bar does not work - at least not on my MacBook Air (Lion). The other key options, Shift and Command, do work.

    Cheers,
  • Has multi-gesture for Zoom-In/Zoom-out changed from v3.2.2? It seems like if I two-finger pull toward me on the touch pad the map should zoom-in. If I push away, it should zoom-out. I thought it was that way before(?).

I use both BC-WIn and BC-Mac so I might be over taxing my old brain.

    Cheers,
  • Please send a little more time on Print. The Map format style is not very appealing. In this version the Scale is being over run by the corner Coordinates.

I hate to say it but the Windows version is much nicer: Grid if you want it. Scale around all edges, and please move the Mag-North Offset to the bottom of the page where it doesn't clutter up the map info.

    Cheers,
  • Can't wait to test all the new stuff about shaping points -- thanks!

So far the only minor glitch is that the program launches with the map zoomed out to 700 miles -- a leftover bug from earlier versions?

EDIT: ... and the old failure to unmount devices bug when an external HD is mounted.

  • So far my wish list has been covered. Thank you. :) One bug remains from the previous release, the behavior of the routing process if "Undo" or "Control Z" are used to remove a misplaced via point. The route creation process is still terminated at the last point.

If the waypoint categories work with my Chartplotters, you've got a winner.

Make sure the map part of the window has focus (click once on the map) when testing the various keys. An unfortunate limitation of the OS.
  • Feature Request

The ability to hide various transportation objects (roads) is great. Better yet would be to have them more closely mirror the "Road Type Avoidances" in the preferences and to have the remaining ones remain visible on the map at higher zoom levels. Specifically unpaved roads and trails disappear at anything beyond a mile.

A case could be made for linking the two preference panes so that the chosen items in the routing "Avoidances" pane were automatically hidden from view on the map, or possibly a user selectable option to do so.

So far I've only found one item on my personal wish list missing. The ability to assign custom speeds to the various road types. As it stands, the times returned for long more complicated routes can be out by 10% or more. Over an hour in some cases on a 12 hour ride.

This is a preference option. If you'd like it to work the opposite way, check the "Invert scroll while zooming" box under Controls.

Lion inverts scrolls (by default). In this release, we re-invert it back when zooming (to match Control+zooming on Lion). But we give you the option to zoom in the direction you want it to.
