Base Camp shows "basic map only" despite topo maps being installed

I am using Base Camp 3.2.2 under OS 10.5.8 on an Intel 2009 dual core MacPro. Under the Maps menu Base Camp shows that the following maps are installed:

Topo US 2008
Topo US 24K West
City Navigator North America NT 2008
City Navigator North America NT 2009

No matter which map I select, the display remains essentially unchanged, showing "basic map only." No contours show up in the display, no labeled streets, etc. (And I do have contours selected to be shown under preferences). This has been a problem for me with all Mac versions of Base Camp. If I boot into Windows 7, the Windows version of Base Camp displays all the maps just fine. Also Road Trip shows the maps correctly on the Mac.

I'd be very grateful for some help in getting the Mac Base Camp to display the maps.

Strangely enough, the answer to your issue can be found in this post, in the Mapsource forums. :p

As the person who made the post you linked to, I don't see the relevance.... sorry. The OP states that he has installed his maps on the Mac and that that appear in the Basecamp menu. My post was about using maps on an external device in Basecamp.

You might try this utility program and see if it reports that your maps are correctly installed on the Mac: http://www.javawa.nl/gmtk_en.html

In my defence, it was late... Should have read more carefully.

As an aside, I really appreciate the advice you gave on getting BaseCamp to see the maps. It's amazing how many people have that problem.

    Solved my maps-not-appearing problem

I tried an experiment. Installed Base Camp 3.2.2 on my wife's iMac and loaded my Topo US 24K West and 2009 City Navigator. They showed up with no problem. Thus it's not some fundamental flaw in Base Camp.

Reinstalling Base Camp on my MacPro made no difference. Still couldn't see the maps.

Here's the trick: I then tried deleting not only Base Camp but all its supporting files: caches, preferences, etc. (I didn't delete the maps.) Reinstalled Base Camp, and bingo! It would display all the maps and the "basic map only" notice disappeared from the display.

Evidently there was some corruption in the supporting files -- probably either the prefs file or the cache -- that was preventing proper display.

I appreciate the suggestions all of you have made. Thanks!

I do not know how to delete supporting files: caches, preferences....

  • To clear preferences, you should go to Preferences->Reset Factory Defaults.
