I bought a Garmin eTrex Legend H and downloaded BaseCamp (2.1.2) onto my MacBook (MAC OSX 10.4.11) to enable me to manage my waypoints and routes.
Since then I have spent hours trying to manage my waypoint and route information using BaseCamp and seem to be getting myself into worse and worse situation.
In fact it appears that the best way of managing any of my data is on the GPS itself and only use BaseCamp to backup data or transfer the data for mapping in GoogleEarth
Here's a starting list of my problems:
1) I had a hang between my Mac and eTrex when they were syncing. As a result I can see waypoints in BaseCamp that do not appear in the Find Symbols Near Current Location list on my GPS. However when I use the Find by Name the waypoints do appear
2) I can't rename a waypoint in BaseCamp without duplicating it. I assume this is because the renamed waypoint is treated as a new waypoint. So when the next sync is done the old waypoint is downloaded again from the GPS and the new waypoint is uploaded to the GPS
3) I can't move a waypoint without duplicating it. I think this is because either the Option key on a Mac operates differently from a PC or because of the sync problem described in 2)
4) When I have tracks turned on for a long time syncing takes for ages. This means that any change I make in BaseCamp takes a while before it is uploaded to the GPS device
I am at the end of my tether and not too sure what to do next.
Is there anyone who can help me sort these problems out?
I am reviewing the Legend H as a possible GPS solution for a number of colleagues and I have to say that my opinion at the moment is "avoid at all costs" because of the time and effort in trying to get the hardware and software to work.
Apologies for this post being a bit of a rant but I am frustrated with the situation I find myself in.
