Feature Request: COPY...

How do you know that your computer "copied" the selected items?

When I press Command-C, I get an audio error response indicating the [Copy] action is not supported by the application.

I don't think BaseCamp can control what my computer does with the contents of the clipboard.

I don't "know" it copied; in fact after selecting Edit --> Copy or Command-C, I can't do anything with the copied material and it will not appear in any other app, so it must not be making it to the clipboard.

However, unlike your experience, I get no audio alert, the Edit --> Copy menu item is bold (not grayed out) and after I Copy then the Paste item is bold too, though it goes gray if I try to paste into another app such as Text Edit.

This is on a 3.2 gHz i3 iMac running 10.6.8 (and it did the same under 10.6.7).

A little further investigation shows that what is being Copied in BaseCamp is the entire Route not the Directions that are highlighted.

Your post gave me the idea to use the BaseCamp EDIT menu - sure enough the PASTE was enabled after a COPY. So, I pasted into; a Text editor and nothing, a XML editor and nothing. What I noticed is that as soon as you leave the BaseCamp and make active another application there is NO data on the clipboard and BaseCamp disables the COPY/PASTE action. So, BaseCamp is only allowing "internal" COPY/PASTE but not of just the Directions.

I'm using a MacBook Air OS v10.6.7 (still).

I've put that on our future feature list. I can't say when it will make it, but it seems like a good idea. I'm frankly a little surprised we don't already do it. Thanks for the feedback.
