Poor routing

I was trying to plan a cycle route from Woking to Brighton.

Google Maps gives me a nice route straight away, selecting the 'pedestrian' option and then choosing the A281 route (shortest).

In order to get BaseCamp to follow the same route Google Maps gave me with one click, I needed 20 waypoints, and in several cases the software routes me off the unclassified road I'd selected, turns around and then tries to go back onto the A road, taking in some cases long detours. My road preferences are set to one notch from the left(i.e. one notch from 'minor roads only').

Have you tried sending the route directly from Google Maps to the GPS? It might work, but I would expect you to have to define some via points anyhow as the GPS has its own routing calculation subroutines.

Version 3.2.0.7 introduced a bug in the routing algorithm that made some routes as much as twice the length of BC released version. 3.2.0.9 is much improved but it is not back to the standard set by the released version. The problem I am seeing is adding miles to getting the driver on the interstate system even if it takes the driver in the wrong direction. Time wise it may not be that much different but I think most people prefer to original routing algorithm. Not sure what version you are running.

Which version of BaseCamp are you using? What map are you using in BaseCamp? As Pseabolt mentioned, there is a routing issue in the beta, if that's the version your using.
