Deleting things or even hiding them

I am sure this is really basic but I am wasting hours on it. I trekked around a desert recently in a large circle. About midway, at point X, I trekked up a mountain to the summit, point Y, then returned to point X and continued. Obviously all the points for X to Y and Y to X are now superimposed and look very messy for a map I am compiling. Is there an easy way to delete the points from Y to X so that it looks better on the map. If I try deleting each point the program just draws a straight line between point Y and X
Any help would be greatly appreciated and joy will be unbounded.

  • Yes Click the point x or the point you want to start deleting. You can click on the map or the track list. Form the gear menu in the track window (lower left corner of track window), select split at selected point. Select the point you want to stop deleting. Split the track at this point. Select the portion of the track you want to cut out and delete.

Hi, thankyou for your very quick reply, I have tried selecting a point, double clicking to give it a yellow circle and then splitting but nothing happens, they do not change colour or split or anything really. What am I missing?

  • Try practicing on a track that does not have backtracking. If you split a straight line track in about the middle, you will have two track that you can select and delete each track.

If you split a backtracking track it is hard to tell which track is on top and selected. If you delete something you want to keep, you have an undo command.

When you split a track at a point, nothing changes until you select on of the sections of the track. If the section is not on top of another section you can see which section is selected and which section is not selected.
