Newbie to basecamp....Ok I just ordered the Garmin Edge 800 with MicroSD card City Navigator for U.S., Canada....it is on its way hasnt arrived. So I thought I would map out a route for next weekend using Basecamp which I just downloaded so I'd have it ready to go. I've ridden many back country roads in the Kerrville, Texas area but those roads do not appear no matter how much I zoom in. I know those roads are there..small little country roads. My question is: Is that the way Basecamp is always gonna look with poor detail or can I use the MicroSD card that's on is way or do I need to buy/download other maps? Total newbie any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
BaseCamp is free but the maps are not. When you get the Edge 800 you can plug it into your computer and after several minutes of indexing the maps, the roads should be available. The next time you plug in the Edge the maps should be available almost instantly.
I think you made a mistake buying City Navigator on SD Card. Without a hack, I don't think you will be able to load the maps on the computer and will have to plug in the gps to read the maps. I think the Edge battery is being charged when plugged in so it may not be that bad. When you update City Navigator be sure and get a download, check the advance button on MapInstall and install the maps on your computer and Edge so the maps are always available for planning.
Thanks so much...makes sense now. Well I bought the Edge 800 as a bundle on ebay at a very good price and it specifies it comes with a MicroSD card with City Navigator North America on it. Hopefully I can figure something out to have it on the computer too. Thanks for your help!
Are you using a Macintosh or a Windows computer? You have posted the same question in both the Windows and Mac forums here (this is the Macintosh forum). If you need help, it's best to only post the question once and use the correct forum. :)
If you are, in fact, using a Macintosh, then you can use the Disk Utility program (in the Applications/Utilities folder) to create a mountable disk image of your City Navigator card. This would then be available anytime you need it on your computer.
But if you purchased on eBay, it may not be a "real" Garmin data card and in that case, none of this will work.
