Showing Unit Supplemental Maps in BaseCamp

I have two Supplemental maps loaded on my zumo660. One is loaded in zumo:\Garmin\gmapsupp.img and the other is loaded on the SDCard:\Garmin\gmapsupp.img.

- zumo:\Garmin\gmapsupp.img is City Nav EUNT v2011.3

- SDCard:\Garmin\gmapsupp.img is an OSM mapset loaded from BaseCamp Windows.

Both work fine on the zumo itself.

I thought BC was suppose to be able to index both of these gmapsupp map sets and display them if selected to do so but the SDCard (OSM) gmapsupp is not being indexed.

Cheers,

We can't guarantee that OSM maps will load. They reverse-engineered our format, and didn't necessarily get everything right. That said, your chances would be better in the 3.2.0.7 beta because we check for a larger range of map types than we did in previous versions.

    Thanks PAXTER1,

I'm using the 3.2.0.7 beta as well as BCv3.1.4 and BCv3.1.3(Win7). I have also tried loading several what use to be "official" 3rd party maps and just now loaded Garmin Roads & Recreation (I know it's old but it's Garmin ;) ) and CNEUNT2011.3 - the gmapsupp still does not show in the Map folder under the zumo660 on any version of BC.

If this is working for others, I would really like to understand what I'm doing wrong.

Fortunately, they do display just fine on the zumo itself.

I see quite a few folks have read this thread but I guess no one else is having any issues with BC reading the onboard supplemental (gmapsupp.img) maps from the GPS.

If this is the case I would appreciate any insight the Dev team might have. By the way this isn't working on any of my BC installations.

    Cheers,
  • BaseCamp will only read Garmin created device maps from devices/SD cards. Typically these are maps that are pre-installed on devices or are sold on SD cards. It also includes maps that are downloaded from Garmin directly to a device or card. I'm not sure about your Garmin Roads & Recreation map, but I suspect it doesn't fall into that category.

BaseCamp will read OSM maps that are designed to be installed on a computer, however these maps are notoriously flaky. Most map-related BaseCamp crashes I've seen are caused by badly created OSM maps.

    Thanks azdrmn...

I transferred some of my CNEUNT v2011.3 tiles from Mapsource to my SD Card. It sound like that should show in my BC when the zumo is connected to my Mac and indexed(?) by BC - but it isn't. Maps are available on the zumo.
  • I'm seeing the same behavior with a Nuvi 350. I have supplemental maps installed, CNNT Europe V9 on the Nuvi itself. Invisible to BaseCamp.

Thanks for the feedback KILLTIMER. I was beginning to think I was doing something that BC didn't like (could still be but at least I'm not alone :) ).
