Smart lists only allow things in them that meet all criteria. Folders should address some, if not all, of your issues since you can just put multiple lists (including smart lists!) into a folder to get what you want.

So, if I read your reply correctly, in my filter:

List Name is ABC
List Name is DEF
List Name is GHI
Waypoint Symbol is Hotel,

I should see all Hotel Waypoints in the three List's - ABC, DEF, GHI, in my Smart LIst - correct?

In general, Mac BaseCamp offers more visible map space than its PC counterpart, and you can already (mostly) hide the sidebar by dragging it to the left and shrink down the toolbar by clicking the button in the top right corner of the window. Do you need more than that for your fullscreen view?

It would be very helpful when using a smaller screen (my MacBook Air) and when making presentations.

By "extended attributes" do you mean stuff like phone number/address being user enterable, or is this referencing a specific GPX extension?

I am referring to the Phone Number, Address, etc. being user enterable.

Yes the smart list's criteria is an AND operation, it must meet all criteria in a list to show. Paxter was referring to the fact that what is shown in a List Folder is essentially an OR of all the contained lists. So you could have 3 smart lists in a List Folder, one for each list you were searching in, for example. When you click on the folder, you will see the aggregate (or OR) of the three lists. I believe that will accomplish what you are trying to do.

Although the List Folder is a very handy feature, it does not do what a SmartList will do in this case. I am trying to create, using SmartList filters, a single list of ALL waypoints with Hotel Symbols that are in multiple lists - hence the example.

Forgive me, I'm getting confused: Is my example above suppose to work and isn't or is it currently working as intended. Thanks for taking the time to get me through this.

That won't work. Because smart lists, as said before, boolean AND all the elements. So you're telling BaseCamp to give you any list that has the name ABC and DEF and GHI (which no list can possibly have more than one name, of course). So you should see no results.

The solution is to have a list folder. Within that list folder, you would have three smart lists (one for each list name you want to match). Within each smart list, you would have the single list name you want to match and "Waypoint Symbol is Hotel".
Now whenever you highlight the list folder (not the lists underneath it), all those hotel waypoints from each smart list are displayed.

Hopefully I typed that out in a way that makes sense.

I know I am missing something because my solution is way to easy but looks like you could just create a new smart list and say Waypoint symbol = Hotel Symbol. Should not matter about multiple list because you are pulling form my collection. What am I missing?

Thank you for that explanation. I now see that the SmartList filter is being applied to the Collection and not the ListName(s). And, your example of a way to get what I want is quite sufficient.

If, on the other hand, when multiple ListNames are added to the filter, the ListName operation is treated as an OR condition - where subsequent AND condition's are applied to "each" ListName - then one would not have to create multiple SmartLists in a Folder to achieve the same outcome: e.g, one SmartList could show all of the "Hotel" waypoints in many specified lists.

You are correct and I'm not trying to make magic happen. If, BC supported multiple "Collections" or filtering at the Folder level, then that would help to solve my problem. I have GlobeRiders "collections" and "myCollections" and several other "GroupCollections" in BC. Filtering at the "collection" level does not provide much benefit to me without doing the proposed solution of putting multiple SmartLists in a Folder.

As I noted in my reply to RUSSELLMI, having the ability to OR the ListName's within the SmartList operation would allow me to create one SmartList rather than the 30+ I will have to do now.

I'm still hoping for "Waypoint Categories" (multiple) as found in MapSource. As it is I'm still using MapSource for Waypoint management due to this.
