Show Hide POIs in Basecamp

I'm trying to figure out how to show only one category of POIs in Basecamp. When I select the Show Options tab there is a drop down list of categories and subcategories. If I select a category and check the check box I still see of the POIs on the map - Basecamp doesn't hide all of the POI categories I don't want to see.

Any suggestions on what I am doing wrong?
  • Any category or sub category that is checked will be shown. Uncheck the types you'd like to hide.

Sorry -- I think I misunderstood your question. The "Show Options" tab only applies to the find results for the next search. It has no effect on which POIs are displayed on the map.

The newly released public beta allows you to show and hide specific Map features, such as POI and Line types. If you prefer not to try the beta, this functionality will be available in a future a release.
  • In the lower right corner of BaseCamp there is a Hide Map Features button. The button opens the Display tab of preferences which has the same button at the bottom. A drop down list allows you the hide just about everything including roads by types of roads. Implementation of this feature has be done extremely well, as you uncheck items, you see them disappear on the map behind the preference dialog. POI are listed by categories with one click hiding all in the category but you can also cherry pick for the category sublist.

    Beta Crashes

Thanks for the reply's - I now understand how the Show/Hide only applies to searches.

I downloaded the beta for Basecamp. It loaded but now just freezes when I start it. The app opens and shows the map but everything is frozen and I need to do a force quit in Activity Monitor. Is there a place I should be reporting these issues?

There's unfortunately a startup crash for non-English languages in the beta, which it sounds like you may be running into. If you are running in English, hopefully you'll get an error reporter dialog starting up the next time you run BaseCamp.

Otherwise, please contact us here and we can try to get your crash log some other way.

    Beta Crash on Start

When I start the Basecamp beta (3.2.0.7) the app opens and shows the map but the app is frozen. There is no error box and I have to do a force quit in Activity Monitor. I'm running this on an iMac 27 running OS X 10.6.7.

I've tried deleting the beta and re-installing but get the same issue.
