Custom Symbol / Icon for waypoints in BC

Under edit menu I find Manage custom waypoints symbols but when selected, I see None Found. I think you have to put your symbol in a special folder but I can find the path. Also will jpeg work?

Thanks

That explains why it did not work, no matter how hard I tried! I wasted about half a day trying to make it work :(
How about the folder in my Oregon 450? What should it be called and how should I name the files?

On the Oregon 450, you'll need to put any custom symbols in the Garmin/CustomSymbols/ folder. The file names shouldn't matter as much as with BaseCamp, but the images need to be in a Windows 24-bit bitmap (.bmp) format.

For full instructions on Custom Symbols for the Oregon, see here: http://garmin.blogs.com/softwareupdates/2010/03/personalize-your-map-with-custom-symbols.html.

OK! Thanks! I'll give it a try tomorrow.
Now I am focused on custom maps :)

If you have created Garmin Custom Maps using GE and image overlays which result in a KMZ file, then you can Import the KMZ map (image only) into BaseCamp which will show in your LIST. Then you can select the Custom Map(s) and Transfer it/them to your Oregon using the BC Transfer to Device and then selecting Garmin Custom Maps and Imagery.

    That should work(?).

    Cheers,

I have done what you suggest with the exception of transferring the KMZ file directly to the Oregon from GE.
The problem is that I do not want to use the maps in GE.
I actually only would like to place a (transparent) file as an overlay on the existing map in the Oregon.
I just want to figure out a way to put this type of picture on top of the Garmin maps:

This works great in BC by using GIF or PNG files embedded in a KMZ but that does not work with the Oregon. It only accepts JPGs which are not transparent.
    Any suggestions?
