Deleting routes?

Over the last few days I have created a number of 'trial' routes and exported them to my nüvi 1490T. As far as I understand this unit has limited 'route storage capacity' so I would like to remove these routes again.
As I understand it the routes exported from BaseCamp are located in the 'User Data' folder in the 'Tools' menu, from where they can be 'imported' and portrayed as (navigable) routes on the display (via the 'Find' menu).
There is a 'delete all routes' option in connection with the 'User Data' folder - I used that and got a message that the folder contents had been removed, but to my surprise I was still able to import the routes!?
Thereafter I deleted the imported routes one by one (via the 'edit button' portrayed with the displayed route).
I now assumed that everything was 'gone' - but to my surprise I could still redo the above procedure and once again import the same routes from the 'User Data' folder(?)
How do I get rid of then - once and for all??
  • I have a Nuvi 750 and you can not delete the route file you upload from base camp using any command on the nuvi. The process for the 750 is upload the route file, disconnect the nuvi, turn on the nuvi, go to my data and convert the route to a format where the route will be available for selections. Once the route is converted you can select the route for use or delete the converted routes.

I have been able in the past to mount the nuvi on the desktop, drag some files to the trash and have limited success deleting the uploaded files but never really figured out how to remove all the uploaded route files. I always emptied the trash because the nuvi would find and retrieve items from the invisible trashcan but I never knew what was going on with the nuvi file management.

I waited about posting hoping someone had the answer, but there may not be a good answer. My nuvi has a limit of 10 routes and I think it automatically starts deleting routes after the 10th uploaded route. I think the uploaded route files are very small, nothing more than the waypoints used to create the route. I also find it much easier just to upload the waypoints used to create the route into the favorites and create the route using the Nuvi Where To?.

    - thanks for this very useful/informative reply. I am so new with all this that I wouldn't dare to tamper with the nuvi files from the computer - for fear of doing some 'irreversible' deletion! :)
I hope you are right that the older routes will simply be overwritten/deleted when new ones are loaded(?)
Thus far I'm not too happy with waypoints for route creation - I find the voice announcements of upcoming waypoints somewhat annoying, especially for shorter routes with several waypoints.
