I'm trying to plan a ride in BaseCamp and one of the forest roads on the map shows a gap in the road, as a result the routing does all kinds of bizarre routing to bridge this 10' gap, on roads that have closed gates so it's useless:mad:. I know the gap is a mistake in the map and the forest road is actually completely intact. I've tried creating a track and converting it to route and inserting it to fill this gap but no joy, any suggestions?
There is no simple cheap workaround other than getting Navteq to correct the map. Please take the time to send them the correction. The on-line form is on their website --- Navteq.com
The simplest way to handle the problem is to use two routes: one ending at one side of the gap and the other starting at the other side of the gap. You might also try using an off-road or direct route (one which doesn't follow the roads but instead merely consists of straight line segments from one via point to the next.
Nuts. Yeah, I tried creating a separate direct route between the two points and then inserted that route into the two points on my main route, worked like a charm excpet for the fact that it converted the entire route to direct
It's certainly less than ideal, but would there be a problem with just having two separate routes?
Alternatively, depending on how your unit handles routes, you could have a via point right before the point where the map data falsely displays a break in the road and let the unit recalculate the second chunk of the route for you after you bravely tally forth for those 10 feet.
Zumos will generally follow the route you send so long as it matches the map it's using, but I think the work around suggested above would work on any device that recalculates for you when you miss a turn, etc.
