Australian Topo Maps fail to show in Mac Basecamp

Just starting out with Basecamp, had my Garmin Nuvi 1350 for over a year though.

With my netbook PC, I just plugged in my Garmin Nuvi1350, and Basecamp Windows downloaded both the recently updated Australia/NZ City Navigator maps, and the Australian Topo Maps, which I had purchased on line some time ago. The topo maps were purchased by download over a year ago and are installed on an SD card.

The screen is just too small on my netbook, and I hate the fidgety keyboard, so I put Basecamp for Mac on the iBook, which has a much bigger screen.

However only the CityNavigator maps (including the recent update) downloaded from the device automatically. While I can see the SD card in Finder, and the Top maps files, (Maps/TopAustralia.gma, Map/TopoAustralia.img, Maps/TopoAustralia.uni) they did not load automatically (different to the PC version).

How can I use the Topo Map within Basecamp on my Mac, so that is works like the PC version?

Thanks
  • The MyGarmin page has a MyMaps section the downloads updated maps automatically when you click update available. My Topo maps are registered on the page but updates are only available every 4 or 5 years and basically you purchase a new map. I don't think there is a way to download previously purchased maps. I always purchase topo maps on DVD which works great with BaseCamp.

Thanks for your reply. Sorry that doesn't really address the issue I have.

Basecamp is accessing maps installed on the Garmin Nuvi 1350 device (apart from the World Map).

With the PC version, I have access my City Nav maps (on the device internal memory), and the Topo maps (on the device's SD card).

With the Mac version I only have access to the City Nav maps.

Why is there different behaviours between the Mac version and the PC version?
  • OK, Does your SD card mount on your mac when you plug in your gps and open BaseCamp (upper left corner)? Have you clicked on the SD card where Topo maps are stored and waited several minutes for the initial download, indexing or whatever BaseCamp has to do the first time is accesses a map on a GPS?

If you store the maps on your computer you can view the maps, create routes, tracks, etc without plugging in your GPS.

Unfortunately, many maps made by Garmin and MPC vendors in the past were not created exactly right. This caused no issue until BaseCamp started loading maps from device/cards directly, so no one noticed the error. To work around this issue, we have to create a point fix work around for each map with the error. The most recent version of BaseCamp for the PC has this work around for your Australian maps, but the Mac did not. The next Mac version will have this fix. Sorry for the inconvenience.
