My first post so Hi to everybody.
I recently purchased the Garmin 450T and have got all working apart from a few problems. It come installed with recreational map europe and Garmin GB discovery 50K. I have all this in basecamp with maps unlocked ok. I purchased the Birdseye add on have this working but it does not seem to do a lot. It looks like when the GB map is on it upscales the map i think to 25k which is great, however i was hoping for a satellite image like google earth to help plan tracks waypoints etc. No matter what map i have installed i cannot get this detail. On a point of interest i then went to Goole earth to save a map overlay as a KML.KMZ file but this also will not import into basecamp. Any ideas please.
  • Being in the US means I am just guessing but I think birds eye view varies depending on the location you have downloaded. I have been pleased with the detail I have downloaded and found a few spots better than google earth. However I realize google earth is constantly improving their maps and a comparison 5 months ago may be reversed today.

For my use I much prefer Garmin Custom Maps. The Garmin Custom Map Forum has some custom maps you can download. Custom maps, the short version allows you to take a jpeg or pdf overlay, use google earth to scale the map upload to BaseCamp and your GPS.

Many thanks for reply will have a good read and see if i can crack this .
  • From your post, I'm not sure if you purchased BirdsEye Satellite imagery or BirdsEye Select. You need the Satellite imagery subscription if that's what you want. There is a preview mode for the Satellite imagery that I encourage anyone who is interested in purchasing the feature to try first.
