Geocaching Sync BACK to Groundspeak Oregon 450

Hi,

I was using my Oregon 450 to navigate to a couple of caches today. I noticed that it has options to mark attempts, with all the same options as the website, such as "Found" "Not Found" "Not Attempted" and the ability to add comments. Because of its remarkable similarity to the website (and the fact that it also has the Groundspeak geocaching.com logo) I was wondering if there was some way to automatically or manually sync your geocache finds back to the website from BaseCamp or something from the records that you have on your device. I've only had my Oregon for 1 day now but I've already fallen in love with it, and if it could do this I would just the whole coca-cola bottle.
  • The feature you are requesting would have to be implemented by GeoCaching.Com. I would not think there would be much demand for the feature.

As part of the paperless geocaching feature of your Oregon where you download the gpx file containing Cache description, log, hints, you get a link to the geocache on GeoCaching.com. From Base camp, just click the blue cache number and mark you cache on the site. I would think GeoCaching would prefer a hit as opposed to dealing with file uploads.

    Solution

    Hi,

After posting this I actually went playing around with my Oregon and I found a file called cache_visits.txt or something like that (I've deleted the file for reasons I'll explain later) and it had the GC code and comments and data like that in it in a CSV format. So I was intrigued and I contacted Groundspeak users and they said that there was actually an obscure way to upload the file and have the cache visits and comments logged on the website. So I guess that was exactly what I wanted and it existed the whole time! I would delete this post but I hope that it will help someone else looking for this feature.

    Thanks for the reply!
  • Maybe uploading cache finds and notes are available as a premiere member but not only are is the link obscure for the basic membership, the instructions are a secret. Edit, I can't find it on premiere either.

In search of the "obcure way to upload the file and have the cache visits and comments logged on the website" I noticed BaseCamp is not listed on the GeoCaching.com Software page for Mac or Windows. In my opinion, this is a major omission.
