Dakota, Oregon, & Nuvi

I keep all my GeoData (Waypoints, Tracks, & Routes) in BaseCamp (BC) and store only the GeoData for my next trip on the GPS. My Dakota allows me to completely manage GeoData from BC. After a trip, I drag any tracks I want to keep, delete everything and drag my next trip GeoData from BC to the Dakota.

My wife's Oregon will not allow me to delete any GeoData that was not added in the current session but I can easily trash Current folder and Temp.Gpx from the Garmin volume mounted on the desktop. The Path is Garmin.GPX and I always empty the Trash. The trashing is a fast way to delete GeoData. I drag any tracks I want to keep to BaseCamp, quit BC and deleting the files

The Nuvi 750 contains 4 files, Instead of Current folder, there is a Current.gpx file. I assume deleting Current.gpx and Temp.Gpx from the GPX Folder would delete favorites, tracks and routes but I have not given this a try. Can any explain the files I find in the GPX folders and are there any precautions I should use with the described procedures?

Thanks
  • You can treat current.gpx in nuvi as an export of internal data. If you delete this file, nuvi will rebuild it again after restart.
temp.gpx works in opposite direction, nuvi imports data from it.
  • I just read the following on Garmin RoadTrip Mac Forum:

The nuvi will not allows a Mac/PC to delete its data. This is working as intended, though not as conveniently as the newer outdoor handheld devices that do allow data to be deleted. We are working with the nuvi team now to try to get this functionality added.

I assume this means there is no quick way to delete User Data from the Nuvi except resetting the unit. Am I missing something?
