Maps for Mac

I just downloaded Garmin BaseCamp, but it shows only the interstate. I already own the City Navigator North American V7 that I had used on my PC. I can't seem to read that on my Mac. Thus I am hesitant to down load at ($80) City Navigator North American NT. Also I don't see where it says it is compatible with Mac.

Will the NT version work on my mac?

and can i save the maps from my OR 550T to my Mac so that I don't have to pay for the software again? My husband downloaded the NT package to his pc.
  • You should be able to convert you version 7 city navigator using the instructions and applications for mac and PC.

Edit: I was checking my post and the link to PC Map Converter on the pdf is broken, click here.

Not knowing the GPS you want to use the City Navigator maps with, makes it hard to predict. I have a NUVI 750, Garmin sent me a DVD for $10 after I had registered on My Garmin and called support. For about $120, I bought life time City Navigator updates and MY Garmin installs the unit on the Nuvi and Mac with just a couple of clicks. I can even move the maps to my MacBook for travel. City Navigator maps are tied to you GPS unit, I have to plug the unit into the computer to download. If your road GPS is getting old, you can buy most model nuvi with the life time update for the GPS.

If you plug you 550T in your mac with BaseCamp Running, your topo maps will mount after several minutes. The initial mount is slow but the following mounts will be fast. Without a hack, the only way to install the maps is from a DVD. I prefer the 24k maps, you can buy on DVD that install on your mac and Oregon. You get greater detail and more trails. The route tool will auto follow the trails and allow you to draw an elevation profile. I read you could copy the maps to a thumb drive and the thumb drive would mount you maps. I have not tried the thumb drive because I bought my oregon with out the topo maps installed and got the 100k topo on a DVD.
