BaseCamp, 3760t, Routes, MacPro

I have just purchased a 3760t and installed BaseCamp on my MacPro. I have Topo USA 24K Southwest installed in BaseCamp. When I sent to the GPS all that transfers are the waypoints and NOT the routes. I have tried the transfer button and also tried to highlight all the routes and individual routes and drag them to the unit. Nothing seems to work. The routes show up when I look at the 3760 in BaseCamp but not when I look on the unit itself. When I eject the unit I get the following box:
"Some devices were found; however, none have the necessary capabilities.
Please make sure your device is connected to the computer and turned on, then try again.
You may also need to set the interface option on your GPS to 'Garmin' or 'Host'"
Anyone have any thoughts on this please?
Thanks
Steve
  • yes I did, thanks

    I think you meant the 37xx series. There's no way Garmin is going to add routing capability to the 1350. They already have units in both the 13xx and 14xx line that have that capability.

    I knew the 1350 didn't support routes when I bought it. At the time the 1490T was outside my budget but the price is dropping rapidly. A refurbished 1490T is about US$140 online. Adding lifetime maps puts you just over the US$200 mark. There's the 1490LMT but that only has maps for the continental US (48 states).

    Another nice, but undocumented feature, of the 13xx and 14xx models is their ability to create detailed trip/track logs (point per second) and save them to GPX files just as my GPSmap 76CSx can do.

    A couple of FYIs re older Nuvi models...

    @PSEABOLT,

    My 765T does routes with multiple vias, which seems to be the only distinction of Trip Planning. It's quite easy to plan a multi-stop trip on it by adding addresses, POIs and favorites as vias. The 765T optimizes the route quite intelligently as you add the vias. Then you can save the route for use later.

    @STUARTMW,

    My 765T saves tracks automatically. A buddy of mine has an even older 250 and it saves tracks, too.

    @STUARTMW,

    So does the 1350. That's not the point. Nuvi's don't provide a way to control how trip/track logs are created (by distance, time etc). The default seems to be by distance but you don't get detailed logs that way. The "hack" allows one to access a hidden feature that allows data to be saved once per second (i.e much more detail). In other words its an additional feature over and above of the standard trip/track logging.
  • nuvi 250 can save tracks, but this is a hidden feature. Your 765 has second hidden tracklog too :)

    Actually standard feature in nuvi is called "Trip log" and doesn't save your true positions but position on the nearest road.

    Thanks. I forgot to mention that ("true positions") fact :D

    This gets back to my earlier post in this thread. Garmin doesn't think the"average user" wants to log their movements--at least not in great detail. Some "advanced" users, such as myself, do. Garmin's view is "too bad".

    Fortunately a development engineer thought otherwise and built in the undocumented feature--at least on some models. I've done exactly the same sort of thing (being a hardware/firmware engineer myself) in defiance of marketing people.

    Recently they have become more interested in logging you movements.... and harvesting the logs when you do firmware and map updates to provide historical data for "trafficTrends". Newer model nuvi's even automatically archive your tracklogs when they fill up. The 3700 series also has the hidden tracklog feature.

    Their privacy policy is a good read: http://www.garmin.com/garmin/cms/site/products/home/products-and-applications-privacy-statement
