BaseCamp comes with the base maps only. To get the detail you want you need to install the garmin maps on you mac. If your gps has pre installed maps you can plug your gps into your computer usb port and view the maps but this is a real hassle. I much prefer to have the maps installed on my computer. Garmin sent my a DVD with City Navigator for $10 but my nuvi was relative new purchase. I don't really know Garmin's policy for getting a DVD of City Navigator when you purchase a Nuvi but all I had to do is call support and make the request. I had my Nuvi registered under MyGarmin. I bought the lifetime updates and the downloads install on my mac automatically. When I bought my oregon 300, I noticed dealers would sell the oregon 300 (with out maps installed) plus Topo 100k DVD for the same price as a oregon 300t (topo maps preinstalled). With garmin's mapinstall, you can load maps to your GPS's.
I've just ordered the Garmin edge 800 and it comes with City Navigator Maps on an SD card. I suppose i could use my computer's card reader to load them on the computer.

Would that work?
BaseCamp will read them from the card, while it is in your Edge 800 or SD card reader.
